Both sides know that's not why they're there.
ETA -- And let's face it, many of those guys have no business academically being at the school where they've been recruited to play football. How are they even supposed to take advantage of those "opportunities?"

Well considering that only a small percent of NCAA athletes make it into the NFL, I'll go out on a limb and say a majority of college football players use their degree.

That's a bit of a stretch, don't you think? How many 1) actually graduate and 2) have a worthwhile degree for employment and 3) get a job based on their degree? And we're not talking about Cornell and Yale.

RB in his recruiting class ranks, which means he probably would only get a look or two from NFL teams. Georgia owes him no money. He signed a contract to play for them and they gave him a free top quality education, room and board, a healthy meal plan, cash stipends, and a chance to be famous and get recognition by NFL scouts by playing for a team that will be nationally televised frequently and scouted weekly. Playing at Georgia will earn him many millions most likely, and if it doesnt, he never would have had that chance without them anyway

The university has nothing to do with whether they graduate, get a worthwhile degree, or get a job based on it. What they do academically is their problem, and they're given every advantage possible to succeed academically. Special tutoring, first scheduling priority, special permission to move tests, etc.
You don't need a degree from Cornell or Yale to succeed. A degree from any 4 year university makes you qualified to be a general manager at Waffle House directly out of college, for instance. And that is a fantastic job for many of these kids considering where they've come from.
Many people also ignore the fame gained by these players by playing for a university, and the jobs that come from that afterwards. Many players get better jobs than they deserve out of college based on their athletic achievement and people wanting to be around them for that. Getting a $70k a year job out of college with a Gen Ed degree and keeping that job for the rest of your life is an incredible payoff

It puts them in a position to graduate or go back to school after their NFL career has ended. A scholarship package is most likely valued at the median wage in this country which is around 53k a year. Room, board and fees is around 27K alone.

A higher percetage of athletes graduate than non athletes who start out as freshman.
Whats the percentage of all students who get a job based on their degree?Ex athletes sure as hell have leg up on other graduates with comparable degrees.Especially if they're in the home state of the school they attended.
What exactly is your alternative?Have em go to the CFL?
Creatd a minor league?Tou want them to go to PBI's like the old days of segregation?Junior College?
Don't give me this Bomanii Jones bullshite that these kids are victims and "exploited"because they're not.

Some schools basically invent easy classes and/or encourage incoming athletes to take the lightest courseload. I went to LSU. I had a couple of classes with athletes. They'd show up on the first and last day and somehow still advance to the next level of courses.
There's a reason why scandals revolving around academic fraud in major college athletics surface year after year.

1. The 3 year rule is the NFL's rule. Not the NCAA's. The NFL wants their football player employees to be out of high school for 3 years before they can play in the league. It's part of their job requirements. It's no different than an employer requiring a certain number of years experience for a particular job.
2. These people play a sport. They have been playing the sport since they were kids. They could have gotten injured at any level. Nobody is arguing for high school athletes to get paid.
3. These are schools. None of these kids have to go to school to play football. The school is offering them free tuition and the exposure that comes with playing on the football team that they can use to help them land a job as a professional.
4. Scholarships are given for academics too. Not just athletics. Scholarships are given to gifted kids in many different fields. Someone who gets an academic scholarship isn't getting paid either.
