Why doesn't our offense ever point out blocking assignments

Typically when you watch teams on offense they at least point out the Mike backer or who they think might blitz. We come to the line look for the check then run the play. I wonder if that's CCC way of making the defense think that we're never passing, but you can call out assignments on running plays as well

I don't see either Mett or Jennings doing that. The last QB who did the assignment check a lot before snap was Jarret Lee. I guess that comes with playing experience and understanding the defense.

so i umpire high school. right in the thick of the line.
I see QB's calling 55 is the mike 55 is the mike all damn game. but oddly enough, i rarely, if ever, see any linemen looking out to see where in the hell 55 is.
my point is, you have an assignment in front of your face. the QB should audible if that assignment needs to be changed.

I guess they just expect everyone to know their assignments unless they are just blocking the person closest to them.

Do you get verbal abuse from players or their parents?

I don't know, but our OL has been pretty fantastic this year. So I'm not going to doubt Grimes' methods.

No. Most of those kids are smarter than that. I also believe I am good at what I do.
And when a kid comes up talking about a hold, have an answer as to what you saw. Away from point of attack, no restriction, etc.

If you haven't seen LSU do this you should probably try watching Pocic during the game.

Mett moved the RB around to where he felt the blitz was coming from, and if he felt everyone was picked up he would sometimes split the RB out wide

We must still be on the Coach Stud plan of "just block who ever is in front of you".

Same reason Eisenhower didn't point out his D-Day invasion to the enemy. Attack what's in front of you and move forward.

In HS on the line we called out the blocking assignments. 3 for a 3-tech on the guard, 33 if guard is uncovered there's a LB off the line. We never pointed but we'd yell loud enough for other linemen and the QB to hear in case we had a check w/ me or a certain play that altered blocking assignments like for a trap or a kick-out block.

you have to know them to point them out.

Question: Do you think an offensive tackle can see who a qb (standing behind him) points at?
Assisgnment calls are done by the linemen. Typically the center calls out mike, but there are a number of other blocking calls/changes that can come from dif positions on the oline. The qb/rb will usually callout potential blitzes from the edge.

Was going to say this. They are probably making calls just not pointing.

I have not seen a need to these last few years.
Have a sh!tty O-line and you will get all the finger pointing you can handle

No. CCC's way of making the defense think we're never passing is by never passing.
(Just kidding)

Unless you have something very specific called, I think most zone blocking is about blocking the spot and whoever happens to be in it, rather than a particular guy. So, other than calling out blitzes or audibling to a different pass protection scheme, there is probably less of burden on Pocic to do this.

When the Saints played the Panthers, they had Cam mic'd up. Cam, in a Pro-set offense, never once identified the Mike.
Different teams just do it differently.
Brees and Manning do it all the time.
Those are just the few I have noticed when the QB is mic'd.
