We have a very old Apple computer we want to get rid of. Before we do that we would like to remove any information that is personal, such as credit card history related to purchases, etc. any input appreciated. Thanks.

remove hard drive, destroy with hammer.

if anyone actually uses your old computer, a hard drive is a cheap add on.

Correct answer. There are ways to wipe with software, but this is the cheapest and easiest.

I generally take the drive apart and use the platters as drink coasters. Takes a little while the first time you do it but after a little practice it takes all of 3-4 minutes. Easier than trying to whack it with a hammer.

You could also put it in the microwave......
