Navy it's not just your disposition, most if not all military members are told from the beginning by their commanders, senior NCO's, and PL's that if you come to me with a problem you better have a couple of solutions.

That was probably the 2nd lesson we learned at OCS (after the DIs were done teaching us the first lesson of responding loudly and immediately to any command). But I think I've always been that way.

Happily married for 13 years with three kids. Stay single until at least your 30's. Men change a lot from their 20's to 30's. Things that used to matter dont matter nearly as much in your 30's. You start to appreciate more meaningful relationships and you should have a good idea of who you are and what direction you will take your life in by your 30's.

Absolutely THE best advice in this thread ..

Marry for reality, not potential. It's nice to have hopes & dreams, but the person needs to be doing something to get there. I married young, and was overly optimistic. Now that I'm older, frick potential.

When you get married, fight like hell to make sure bjs are expected and desired. Make it known. If not, you'll never see them again.

Also, she WILL have some crazy ocd things like needing the towels folded the perfect way. Just learn and do your best.

And finally, yes...she is just like all other women and no, you didn't marry a porn star. Get used to one...maybe two positions forever.

Ignore advice, don't develop a bias based on random, internet strangers.

My wife actually got a shotty bed bath and beyond gift for her birthday and returned it.

I told her I would add 200 bucks to it and she could get whatever she wanted.

She bought a vacuum cleaner.

Talk about confirmation you got a good woman.

Just tell them something about marriage they might not expect.
A. The cooking should improve over time. Don't expect meals like Mama used to make and don't suggest she take cooking lessons from Mama.

B. They will expect you to actually initiate and carry a conversation about something other than hunting, fishing, your job, football, baseball, hockey, video games, politics, cars, news, technology or science. Bone up on fashion trends, shopping secrets, local neighborhood gossip, and home decorating hints and tips.

C. Expect if she cooks, you clean. Expect if you cook, you clean.

D. Never ever believe, no matter how nice they may seem, for your in-laws to ever view you with anything other than veiled distrust. Anticipate that behind the scene, they talk negatively about you behind your back's to your wife's sister or brother. Don't take it personal. That's just how it is everywhere. In a divorce, no matter if she's at fault, they side with her. Always.

E. Girls who are not interested in (or lack talent, drive or ambition or a degree for) a career and are just really uninteresting eventually become really boring and you'll regret that you didn't marry someone who has drive and ambition (or money). No matter how pretty she is, you'll eventually run into someone who seems more alive and "has it together" and if there's an attraction... watch out!.

Men want to feel respected

Women want to feel cherished and loved

Men, if you aren't feeling respected by your spouse....make sure she is feeling cherished and loved by you first.

Women, if you aren't feeling cherished and loved by your spouse....make sure he is feeling respected by you first.

Also....people show/receive love differently. Learn you and your spouse's love language(gifts, touch, words of appreciation, acts of service, quality time together).

Yep

Seriously though, that book(or at least just taking the quiz) can actually help a couple.

How so? They are just being honest.

One should look at marriage more realistically. If you think it's gonna be sunshine and roses everyday you will be in for a huge wake up call. Marriage is hard....but completely worth it if you marry the right person.

I don't want to hear shite if you don't want my opinion about it. It's just my disposition, I suppose.

People that have to solve problems in their day to day duties probably don't make good listeners, you can't turn problem solving on/off. It is who you are. This has always been tough with me and my wife. I couldn't possibly count the times I've heard "I just need you to listen"
