The fans want it and apparently Butch does as well. This is an article from last December with him saying "I would be interested" if the job ever came open. I do not see Golden back next season unless they win the ACC

Butch Jones "I would be interested" in Miami job

Both are desperate to matter again.

I could see it happening.

Davis has too much NCAA baggage and a lot of the NC thing happened under his watch. The recent stuff not the academic stuff that has been going on a long time. I would be very surprised if Davis ever coaches in college again

UNC threw him under the bus, hoping to save their basketball program. It almost worked.

I wouldn't be surprised if Arkansas, continues to shite in the bed, they hired him.

Miami would be stupid to hire Davis. He hasn't done anything impressive since he left Miami and like you said NCAA baggage for a program that does not need anymore NCAA baggage.

So to answer the OP's question, no they will not hire him.

Why would any decent school hire butch Davis? His amaze balls Miami tenure ended 15 years ago. He was 51-20 at the U. He jumps ship before his best teams bear fruit. He gets some credit, but ultimately he wasn't the coach for the Larry Coker lead but Davis recruited Miami mega teams of the early 00s.

He bombs out of Cleveland

His UNC tenure was a disaster. Tons of talent, too many 8-5 seasons, a wake of NCAA sanctions behind him, and most of his pedestrian win count has been vacated

This guy is such a burn out, has been retread. Time for some new blood

Miami needs to understand they aren't a football school in 2015

No facilities to wow recruits outside of the stadium
Crappy fan support
No stadium near campus

In the 80s and even in the 90s TV coverage was very regional and limited. Now you can watch a game from anywhere. Miami kids see the facilities that schools like A&M/LSU/Bama/OSU/Michigan/Oregon etc. have. why would you want to go to Miami?

I think Miami could still be incredible if they wanted to. They really tightened the academic restrictions in the early 2000s-- maybe that's why they haven't even played for an ACC title since joining the conference in 2004

This is an honest question. Have you been to the average game at Sunlife Stadium?

I stood next to a UGA alum (we both went there for law school) and we stood in awe when they were down 3 TDs to FSU at the half and students didn't even care

I mean if they really wanted to? Yes if they would pump money in to making a new stadium and new facilities then yea they could be good again, but it will take a hell of a lot more than want

Bret's buyout is insane. He'll be there for awhile longer

Miami has spent on facilities in the last 3 years LINK, but even that is not enough. They are the only ACC or SEC team without an indoor practice facility and they have no on campus stadium. If the admins doesn't change their attitude about football Miami is on its way to being Tulane.

I mean Miami has a gorgeous campus and a ton to show off when a kid take a tour. One of the better campuses I've been on as far as aesthetics (I mean they play up the palm trees for sure)

However, as you said, there is no on campus stadium. there is also no way they can have an on campus stadium since there is no room and Coral Gables residents don't want to damage home values. There isn't much room to build out around the school, although I know exactly where an on campus indoor facility could go (wouldn't be huge or impressive maybe but there is room)

Games at the Orange Bowl were pretty fun and fairly easy transportation for an off-campus stadium. I went back for one Miami-Florida State game at Sun Life, and it was a terrible location and atmosphere. I'm glad I never had to travel there on gameday as a student. I would have watched Gameday in my dorm over going way out there to watch them play some turd team at noon.

There is weak fan support. There were tons of students like me from out-of-state. Most of my friends are scattered back around the country and just mildly annoyed when Miami loses. They've been losing for a decade. My friends who had that childhood connection growing up with the program are still passionate about it (and two work in the athletic department), but that isn't a huge part of the alumni base.

The four names constantly thrown around for next Miami job are: Butch Davis, Greg Schiano, Rob Chudzinski and Mario Cristobal.

Butch Davis would make Miami great again...but they will most likely end up on probation in doing so.

I hope Mario isn't the next coach hes a backstabber and pos. He isn't a good coach.

Butch would make the U top 10 again look at the talent he brought to UNC. If not for Austin being stupid UNC wins ACC.

IMO best choice outside of Butch is Ed yaw yaw Orgeron

Their best shot was to work with Beckham and MLS to build a ~30K seat stadium that could have accomodated 10,000 temporary seats for Miami games. They would have only been 6 miles from campus then and could have a totally state of the art stadium that they sold out and actually had energy in. However it appears the admins didn't want to try and fight to get out of their lease at Sunlife so I expect them to suck for another 18 years.
