It's incredibly sad, but if you look between the lines you'll see that in the face of death the child was able to focus on what mattered in life and face death with courage, selflessness, and maturity.
Hopefully we can learn from this child how to properly die without fear but rather hope.
Good post. I can only hope I'm able to face death with the mettle of that little man.

Damn. I'm so sorry. I'm not going to insult you by trying to pretend to be able to grasp what you've been through and still go through today. All I can say is I hope at least you've found peace.
To be honest , I'm angry. Angry at Mother Nature, God , whoever . Stories like these get me even more angry because children keep on having to needlessly die through just random bad luck. Why? If their is a creator who has made the universe then I got serious issues with the creator. Take the Earth for example. It's such an awesome living organism . So the creator can make this awesome planet but can't keep kids from dying . I find that to be pretty fricked up.

This is from his mom for those wondering whether he wrote good bye or good boy:
quote:
I just wanted to clarify that the letter from Leland doesn't say goodbye. It says good day. It says "still with you thank you mom and dad love mom and dad it's a good day." The media always messes things up. We still can't thank everyone enough for their support for us through this difficult time. Reality still hasn't set in that he's not here with us. We miss him terribly. Today we go to pick out his headstone. I'm not ready for this either. I'm not sure how I'm going to go on without him. How do you not only say goodbye to a child but your best friend.

I came across this story a few days ago and I'm still effected by it. That letter and the story behind is really inspiring.
He's a bigger man than I've ever been.

I can't wait to get off work and play with my children tonight. I just want to hold them. Live each day as it is your last. Laugh, have fun, and waste no time on negativity.

Yes, the boy sensed his fate.

Wow!
I can not imagine losing one of my children. As Darth said, having to bury one of my kids would be my greatest fear.
Giving my kids a big hug when I get home.

After my first son died everybody told my wife and I that with time it will get better. 13 years later with three beautiful, healthy kids . You know what, everybody was full of shite . It doesn't get better . It actually has gotten worse. It= the pain in a parents heart.
Prayers of peace and healing for you and your family. As a parent of 2, I cannot even imagine.

Well, shite.. I was in a good mood.. Why the frick I read that?
Posted on 10/1/15 at 5:56 pm to Jiggy Moondust
Is this brain amoeba thing getting more common or more reported?
I mean shite. I've heard of catching it through rivers and lakes and getting warm fresh water in your nose. I've never heard of catching it through playing in dirt.
It's almost to the point where I'd rather keep my kids inside.

If that was my son, I don't think there is anything that could stop me from losing my shite after reading that.
