Right, but they're likely to give him away for cheaper allowing the Saints to have the starting negotiating point of this year's rookie deal and leverage of long term security.
I still don't think they part ways with him

NO NO NO!!!
This is how we got into this mess to begin with.
2 ways this could play out that isn't disastrous:
1- we extend Brees next year and it lowers his cap hit.
2- we trade Brees next year to a team that will extend him and lower his cap hit.
It would be a terrible idea to trade for Jeffrey. The guys a UFA next year and we shouldn't be looking to break the bank for a WR. Jesus, look at what Julio, Dez, and Green just got.
I don't think Jeffrey is on that level, but he's gonna ask for a truckload of cash.
I hope they're extending Armstead now.

@TheSaintsBeat: Payton says contract adjustment was not to add another player but to add "wiggle room" for normal in-season moves.
Seriously?!? frick this sucks.

Yeah but I don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth. He is walking deception.

What do you want him to say? "Yeah, we're trying to work out a deal with Chicago for Martellus Bennett, but who knows if it will get done..."

Katherine Terrell ?@Kat_Terrell 17m17 minutes ago Interesting. Payton was asked if he's still looking to improve the roster. He says yes and then mentions they're short at tight end
If only we had nine draft picks this past draft... I actually like our draft for the most part, but not addressing WR or TE seems pretty irresponsible.

Cmon man, we all know 3rd string QB was a big hole we had to fill.

That's an intentional oversimplification of the pick even though I didnt like it

Byrd has been going to practice more often as of late so he's earned an extra $2.6 million.

Heard that was an incentive to get him out the motorized shopping cart he was riding around walk-throughs in.

Will Garic get on the treadmill?

Colston:
Cap hit Dead Cap
2015 $6,500,000 $7,755,000
2016 $5,900,000 $2,700,000
Browner:
Cap hit Dead Cap
2015 $2,400,000 $7,750,000
2016 $6,300,000 $5,350,000
2017 $6,300,000 $1,300,000
Colston will probably be gone next year, but Browner is likely here until the end of 2016

Yea, Colston is gone next year. Jahri Evans contract is worse than both of those. Evans is 7.1 in dead money if we cut him next year. We're basically stuck with Evans and Browner until 2017.

Looks like end of 2016 from what you posted unless I'm reading it wrong

@MikeDetillier: Bottom line. Saints will try and rebuild team w/Drew Brees on team in 2016, 2017, 2018.. Look for new deal early next year for D. Brees.

Smart move. A cheaper brees, maybe declining, but consistent for 3 years will hold us in contention for a playoff run.
The hard part is getting better at drafting next year.
