Such a smooth point guard and that spin move is silky. Love his ability to finish with the off hand on layups

Gotta learn to finish with his left and keep his head up when driving

You can't tell anything from a mix tape. Kid has some athleticism and appears to have descent size for a pg, but plenty of questions. Certainly not enough there for a sec program to be interested. Not saying he isn't that good just saying can't tell from that mix tape. Need to see a game, especially at point.

One thing that concerns me is that he always scores with the ball in his hand. Never away from the ball. Plus, what is his court vision and passing ability?

I agree with first poster too......

I mean that's a first impression from seeing this highlight and some of his other highlights. If you don't see it you don't know basketball

Yep that is exactly right. You are watching a highlight video. Give me a break. You have no clue what the hell you are talking about. But yeah you're right, he needs to finish with his left.

Yes, it is only a mix tape, but every time he's got the ball in his hands his head is down. Mixtape or not, that is a habit. I can promise you, if he is doing it in every possession on that film, he is doing it every other time as well. You seem to be putting the other poster down with your sarcasm, but you obviously don't know basketball if you don't understand that the first rule of running the point is to see the floor. Now, he may be a two at the next level, we don't know. But somebody pointed out a bad habit by the kid, and that is 100% valid.

While he does look smooth, it does worry me that I didn't see a single highlight with his head up looking to pass.

I think there's some good upside for Skylar, but he has some work to do.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I would guess if he's doing that in his highlights, he probably does it on a regular basis.

This is how I know you people have no clue about Skylar Mays. We are talking about the guy who tied the LHSAA record for assists in the Top 28 last season. We are talking about a guy whose knock most of his career is he can't score because he is too pass first. Mays has the best court vision I've ever seen in a Louisiana high school basketball player. He dunks and finishes as well with his left as his right and if you've seen him play just once live, you'd know these things. Please, if you have not seen kids play, do not make assumptions.

I don't know anything about the kid, and most never said we did. I stated that based on that mix tape very few conclusions could be drawn. As I stated, he may be a great player. However, if you post a mix tape and by inference ask for feedback then don't be surprised on the feedback given on that tape. With that said, playing SEC basketball is a big deal. Being good isn't good enough most of the time. By the way, I would argue Chris Duhon had better court vision without ever seeing this kid lol.

Thank you!
I love LSU basketball and appreciate a knowledgeable voice on the matter. Any opinion made based solely on a highlight video is laughable at best. Athleticism is about all you can take from it.

Good to know he is an opinion you can trust. FWIW I played Div 1 basketball, coached in high school, coach briefly in college, and have personally coached 7 ACC basketball players. Still, I know nothing about this kid or most Louisiana basketball kids, so good to know there is a guy on the ground in LA that knows his stuff.

I promise you he knows basketball and he definitely knows more about Skylar Mays' game than you.

Again, if you don't get that impression after watching that TAPE, NOT a live game, you don't know what you are looking at. I don't have the luxury of going to random high school basketball games to see these kids live so I don't know what he looks like for 32 minutes. My assessment is from a 2 minute video, but if he does it almost every play in the video, you can assume he does it often.

Btw don't get me wrong I am happy he is a part of this class and I am ready to see him in P&G

No, didn't coach on the Northshore (or Louisiana for that matter), although I played around the same time that Duhon did.
