Padding LF7's stats for Heisman vs limiting carries to keep him healthy.

Clearly we shouldn't need him the next two weeks. Do you play him sparingly and keep him fresh, or let him bust a couple of 250+ yard games and make him the frontrunner?
I'm just a little nervous having our indispensable man be the running back. Those guys have a tendency to get nicked. We have some very capable backups, including some bona fide studs in their own right. But if LF goes down, the outlook for the rest of the season changes completely.

Beckwith is the man we can't afford to lose

I honestly want to know what Brick's plan was for the DL this year, especially the DEs. Outside of Key, everyone there has shown to be adequate so far. LSU doesn't get Key without O.

I wouldn't play him past halftime providing we had a comfortable lead. That's just what I would do, but I'm not enamored with the Heisman trophy like a lot of other people are.
Get a big lead, rest Fournette and give the other backs some valuable game time experience.

I really want to see guice get just as many carries these next 2-3 weeks. It will keep fournette fresh and give guice experience

Play to win, anytime they have the lead comfortably in hand then he should be out of there and the other backs should take the reigns. It's not about the Heisman, it is about going for national titles while you have Fournette on the roster.

I would guess if everything goes according to plan, LFs next 2 weeks will look something like this:
10-12 carries, 80-110 yards, 1-2 TDs per game, with Williams and Guice getting the majority of carries.
If that happens and he continues to destroy the SEC, it won't hurt his Heisman chances at all.

Stuff the irrelevant Heisman. Rest EVERYBODY once the game is in hand and let the 3rd stringers get some practice. What the hell were we doing having LF dive over the top in the 2nd half?!?

You play for victory. You disregard stats and rest LF when he needs. Simple as that. Anyway, I believe LF is a Heisman finalist if LSU can make the playoff, even if he doesn't have eye popping numbers. JMO.

Win the game easily and keep Buga under 20 carries.
Looks like Syracuse has a good rushing D. Early in the season but the have the 3rd ranked rushing defense in the country. Hopefully we won't have to rush Fournette too hard to get out of New York with the Win.

Heisman would be cool for LSU and recruiting I guess. But keeping his legs fresh is better.

These are young kids not 30yr old nfl players, you play him as much as needed to secure the victory. Once that's done you give the younger kids a chance to play

I wouldn't call the heisman irrelevant, especially not to LF7, who did a heisman pose in his first college touchdown. Him winning it would be a huge honor for him (I'm sure it's a personal goal of his) and a big deal for LSU.
It's not the most important thing, but it is certainly relevant.

Sure the Heisman would be nice. I wasn't around in 1958 and 1959, I wonder which season LSU fans enjoyed the most, 1958 11-0 with the NC or 1959 9-2 with a Heisman. Cannon was the best player on the team both years. I would have picked 1958 by far.
Play to win, rest him some and get him out of the game when the win is assured.

I say give him the playing time he has earned.
I'd give neither "Heisman" nor "Freshness" any more consideration.
If Fournette were simply the #1 RB, we would get X number of touches.
Give him those. He has earned it. That he is GREAT should not keep him from playing time he has earned.
And, I'd not give him MORE just to get stats.

It's clear he's the Heisman frontrunner right now. Give him 15 carries and let him get about 150+.
Harris needs to use this stretch to get as comfortable as he possibly can before heading into that last 4 game stretch.

Good post.
Bottom line is, LF could have 500 yards the next two weeks and it won't matter when the voters vote.
If #7 is dominating against Bama, Ark, OM, AM, that is what will dictate his votes. September Heisman "frontrunners" are historically comical.
Run our game plan until the game is in hand, then get DW and Guice their touches. It's not just about "freshness" for LF, although that is surely a nice benefit of having other guys that need/deserve in their own right, touches.
We'll need those guys to play a role in November too. Get them work once LF has had his.
If LSU is 7-0, and LSU fights it's way to the top of the SECW and into the CFB in November, LF will surely be a big part of that, and he will be in New York. Period.
For all the talk, if the unthinkable happened, it wouldn't matter if it was the first carry of the game, Miles would be blasted by his haters. That is sure of a bet as the sun finding its home in the western sky.

Syracuse has a terrible pass defense. I would like to see him slip through the line and dump it to him a few times.
We have yet to see what he can really do.
We also have some great receivers that have earned the right to have some catchable balls thrown their way.
Let's light it up this weekend.

No one wins the Heisman based on performances against Cuse and E MIchigan.
He will have his chances against top tier competition soon, until then spread the wealth.

I think there is a balance between the two that should be struck. It does the program invaluable good to have a Heisman contender. I say they should continue to target 25 touches and then sit him if possible
