Nostra, are you looking to rent or buy? Condo/Apartment or House?
Ideally buy, prob will rent short-term for ~6 months to make sure we like a particular area before buying.
We'd be ok with a condo/apartment if it was right in uptown. If it's outside of that, I'd like a house in a tight urban neighborhood. I don't want a large suburb yard, but room for a grill and some seating in the back with some plants/trees in the front is perfect.

Get your pennies saved. The market has really gone up in the past year.
We bought a house in 2013 (market was still pretty low) and sold it in 2015 for about 12% more than what we paid. I've heard it's only going up.

The market is cray out here right now, get on Zillow and check out home prices in Dilworth or Elizabeth (tight urban neighborhoods).
Charlotte's population is growing aggressively, and home prices are extremely inflated right now. I thought about buying when we moved, but we're probably only here for 3 years with my wife's residency so renting made more sense.
Also, check out the Park South Station development. Probably a little too far away for you, but seemed like a pretty cool place to live short term.
