Honestly, who are the above average talents on this team?

Brees
Ingram (borderline)
Cooks
Armstead
Unger
Hicks
Cam Jordan
Lewis

Is that it? Am I missing anyone?

I can't really disagree with the OP. This feels like a 7-8 win team to me and honestly, that's because of Brees.

i think there is definitely an argument.

our drafts have been terrible, and then we've traded 2 of our best picks in Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills to try and supplement our lack of overall talent. Carl Nicks & Bushrod being other gems that we had to let walk in recent years.

can't stress enough how terrible our drafts have been. From 09-2012 have been especially atrocious. 14' looks bad top to bottom too.

The past drafts have been horrible, but no it's not close to the worst talent level in the Patyon era.

If it's not worse it's 2nd worse behind '07, that's close.

if Jeff Ireland was the voice of reason in the Peat pick this year then I wonder who everybody else in the Saints war room was lobbying for.

prob Bud Dupree?

Strief
Browner
Spiller for his role
Colston is still above average

Then you have to take into account rookies

Peat
Anthony
Pineapple Express

I don't think that is unfavorable compared to the rest of the league. Hell, if we're truly using average, it's probably more than that

the front seven on defense in 2009 wasn't that good.

gregg williams told that to Aikman and I remember him mentioning it in the NFC Championship broadcast. He was talking about how that was a main reason they emphasized turnovers that year. They knew that teams that could run the ball would give us trouble.

remove the B & G glasses Pat.

RBs are very strong
WR is at a cross road. We've just about phased out the guys that made this offense special.
no talent at TE
OL is average to slightly above as a unit

defense is coming off a season where they ranked 31st in yards allowed.

can't get pressure from the DL
they are trying to infuse talent at LB, but its unproven at this point
defensive backfield as a whole has tons of talent when healthy.

Because of his insane contract and that pool of dead money he caused from Graham and galette tight?

if you took every player from the 09 D and every one from this years D and ranked them, it would look something like this:

1 sharper-09
2 will smith 09
3 vilma 09
4 greer 09
5 Keenan 15'
6 Cam Jordan 15'
7 tracy porter 09
8 roman harper 09
9 hicks? he's prob my 3rd fav player on our d
10 fujita? hargrove? 09'

09 D was way better and littered with proven veterans. 15' guys have done nothing but underachieved

I'd just prefer to wait and see when they actually start playing games.

Maybe the WRs will be pretty good. Maybe the defense surprises us a bit. I'm not going to say the sky is falling before it actually does. Hard to judge the talent until we actually see it in a real game.

yeah, I actually just caught that audio from Aikman the last time they replayed the game on NFLN.

I don't know if he used those same exact words "not that good" maybe it was more like they were vulnerable up front.

but he clearly said it at some point during the game.

I thought Abrayo Franklin was going to be a huge signing for us a few years ago.

there have been others too. Its not like I scoffed at every signing... hell when we signed Byrd I was excited.

I had no idea he had some sketchy medical history though. I wonder what his deal is... I mean he was there for OTA's right? And ever since camp started he's kind of been MIA from team activities. I thought at the least he'd want to be around the team... be apart of the group.

you know... just be more involved.

No one, including you knows 2 fricks about how this team will perform. There are posisaints and negasaints. This board for the moment is infested with the latter. There IS talent across the board on this team. We just have yet to play a meaningful down or field the entire starting unit yet. Most of the judgmental fricks here (including you) have doomed this team before taking a regular season snap.

Honestly, even when the Saints are doing well, you struggle to even squeak out a positive thought without being a judgmental, pretentious a-hole. Could we go 3-13? There is a less than 1% chance that happens. Again, with less talent on the roster and no head coach, we won 7. I believe there is more talent even depth wise than you let on to believe.

This team I BELIEVE is capable of winning the division and winning a playoff game. Beyond that, everything is a bonus.

Everyone wants to throw in the towel on the season before it even starts. Fine, get the frick out of here. Pessimistic arse negasaints.

You're just realizing now that Brees has been saving Payton and Loomis' jobs for the past 2-3 years
