This storm sucked. I was living in Ocean Springs at the time working in Chevron. They shut the plant down prematurely thinking the storm would go there, so we high tailed it back to BR. I stayed in a house with about 15 other people, as Ham said, in BR for over a week with no power. All the while my condo in Ocean Springs never lost power.

Hottest I have ever been in Tiger Stadium
Stayed up and drank all night. They were handing out free water to the students to prevent dehydration. It was miserable.
Think about that for a moment, LSU was giving out FREE bottles of water. Super hot.
But for me, the hottest I ever was at an LSU game was the Monday night Tennesssee game after Katrina. That first half before the sun went down the heat was miserable, as was the team's play in the 2nd half. I also remember a game in the 90s with Miss State that was the 11:30 game. At halftime we got poured on by a rain shower, then once it cleared it was back to 90 degree South Louisiana heat. Not cool.

Lived in rural St. Landry Parish. Out of power for 9 days. 2 trees leaning on my house. Caused lots of roof leaks. Sucked arse.

I was an insurance adjuster for a major commercial property insurer who had a large book around BR area. Those next few months were pure hell. Being first responder with so many closed roads and no power, hot water, or stove at my own place was not fun. Thank God I could go to our "CAT" van during the day to get some AC.
By the way, night and day difference dealing with folks around BR with their claims and dealing with folks around NOLA after Katrina. Completely different mindset....

Evacuated with the old folks and the dog to Natchez. Natchez lost power and the storm blew the side off the Eola Hotel. Did have a great drunken time at the Under The Hill Saloon on Silver Street. if you ever get to Natchez go there, no place like it anywhere I've ever been.

Falling trees were such an issue, parts of the state were not used to those types of sustained winds and trees were literally weeded out.
Where I was, because of where I was..that hurricane fricked with me more than any other hurricane has. Falling trees hitting the house, vehicles, having to chainsaw through multiple trees to clear roads, no power and extended family everywhere.
Ugh..
I do miss the SO I had at the time though. We turned that situation into our own hot little apocalypse.

Lost power in Metry for 4 days...
The rain was crazy... It seemed like those friggin rain bands lasted forever the day after... Got more rain from Gustav than Katrina...

That was a monumentally miserable two weeks. The two most vivid memories I have are the poison ivy rash I had all over me from cleaning up debris which made a horrible situation even worse, and the first time we ate a real meal once the restaurants started opening up again after eating crackers and peanut butter for 2 weeks. Everybody in Albasha's on Bluebonnet was eating like they had been in the desert for a month. You could actually hear people groaning "Mmmm" after taking a bite of food. Everybody was laughing; "It's SO GOOD, isn't it?"

scooped about 20 wheelbarrows full of leaves out of my pool in Alexandria. Chicot State Park lost a ton of trees.
