Fishing with wasp larvae

I tore me son's old treehouse down yesterday and knocked a huge wasp nest down that was full of larvae.
Always heard that the fish would bit on this but never tried it.
My son and I caught about 25 nice size bluegills and a couple of keeper catfish off of them today!
Didn't have my phone with me to take pics but I wish I would have brought it!
Anyone else ever try this?

Definitely heard about it, but never tried it. I always figured the strong aroma of the Bengal spray would keep them bluegill from taking the bait.

My dad said his dad told him that was the trick he heard was to not spray the nest or the fish wont bite it because of the chemical scent.
I burnt the wasp off of the nest with a lighter and a can of starter fluid...extremely dangerous I know...but highly effective

Tie a wad of newspaper onto the end of a long pole. Light paper, liift to the nest, wasps die/ fly off, knock down nest.

Can the larvae feel pain?

Yes I have done it. Not a better bream bait out there.

We used to ride around the lake and knock big nests out of cypress trees with a boat paddle, of course while passing by pretty fast. Come back by and pick them up with a dip net and we had a lot of great bluegill bait.

They can help you locate fish too.
If you find a big dinner plate sized one hanging on a cypress limb over the water, odds are a few bream are sitting under it waiting for anything that falls out.

They were my primary bait source on Lake Bruin growing up. Between those and grass shrimp, I rarely had a store bought cricket.

I won't touch them. Too much like a caterpillar.

Back in the day during the summer, my cousin would come up from B.R. and spend a week with me. My mom would take us out to Anacoco Lake for a day of fishing. We would cruise the lake and look for the big pie size wasp nest hanging from the side of a dead trees. Sling a top water over the top of the tree and bring it up next to the wasp nest. After letting the line out so not to be too close, I would set the hooks. The wasp would go ape shite, and the nest would hit the water. You should see the fish come up and start grazing on the nest. I know, csb.

made my hair stand up just reading it.

Some of them had almost fully developed
The fish acted like they weren't even there and stopped biting until I put the larvae back on the hook.

My granddad taught us to fish with them. Really good bait for bream.
