Two, as a matter of fact. Any of you inside FBDers know anything about either?

The first microbrewery in the Lafayette city limits is opening soon, and another one could be on its way.
Cajun Brewing is only a permit and few days away from operating as a legal brewery while Hub City Beerworks is still at least a year away.

Long way to go if you try to catch NoLa.

and Baton Rouge still only has Tin Roof...
Hub City may or may not even happen it seems, they are still brewing in a guys garage.

Hopefully all these new breweries are worth a damn and not just trying to jump on the craft beer train.
Shreveport has 3 breweries but only 1 is worth anything, although I still think Red River can make good beer if they ever decide to focus solely on their brewery.
Flying Heart sucks as much as their name does.

Mudbugs in Thibodaux sucks, but makes a killing on locals and the fact that their tap room is really nice.

Same for Flying Heart. Their taproom is really nice and its about the only thing to do in Bossier.

Yeah the taproom is crowded Thursday-Saturday and for games on Sunday. The beer is drinkable but some would put Abita above it. However, they have some catchy names such as King Cake Ale, Cafe Au Lait, etc and every local place in Thibodaux and Houma have them on tap and push them.

And Tin Roof is terrible. Nola and LA31 ate the only Louisiana brewers I've tried that are worth drinking/paying extra. Unfortunately Louisiana has terrible water. There's a reason the best breweries are usually near mountains. Good, clean water= good beer.

You can change the water.
And have you had Parish or Great Raft?

Terrible water or terrible water for brewing?
BR has some of the best water in the nation.

Cajun has been in the works for a long long time. I am not holding my breath on that one ever opening. No info on the other.

I forgot about Parish. They were solid, though I only tried a couple. I never tried great raft. I never saw that in Nola, though I've been give a year.

Both, I'd assume. But definitely bad for brewing. Anita has a swamp arse after taste like I've never tasted before.
And there's no way Baton Rouge has done of the nation's best water. You're downstream on the Mississippi, in a swampy area, with a ton of industrial and Petro chemical plants upstream. That's basically worst case scenario for good water.
I've lived in the Appalachians and the Rockies... That's good, clean water.

Baton Rouge water is fine for brewing. All mineral content is below 7 ppm except for Sodium which is around 70. The bicarbonate are mid range (160s I believe) and the pH is slightly higher than most places (8.8).
If a professional was worried about any of that they would spend the extra money on an RO system to dilute or replace their tap water, which is fairly common these days
But why let facts to get in the way when you can just talk out of your arse.

Bro. Appalachian AND Rockies.
BR just siphons potable water straight out the Mississippi.
