How did you become a fan of your club?

Since most of us live in the states and didn't grow up supporting our local club, I find it interesting to hear other folks' anecdotes for why they are fans. So what's yours?
Personally, my club team coach in middle school grew up and was friends with Ian Rush. He came for a tournament one weekend and brought a whole bunch of Liverpool gear for us kids. I knew he played professionally in England, but I had no clue who he actually was or the fact that he was one of the greatest in Liverpool history until probably a year later. I still have my old scarf.

A friend of mine was a Liverpool fan and had a game on one Monday afternoon when I was at his apartment, forgot which game it was (this was 2009ish), but they won, and I've been a Red ever since

real was the best team on Fifa 1998 and continued to buy my favorite players (ronaldo, modric, isco, bale, james, etc)
i really follow players, not teams
AC Milan has great jerseys and a bunch of guys through the years that i loved
i tried to be a toffees fan b/c of modric and then bale, but they both got sucked up into the real vortex of amazing
now i'm a "long time city fan"

Playing with United on FIFA when I was a kid, mostly. I guess I've been on the bandwagon since 2002.
My dad also had friends overseas who were big United fans, and he would watch their UCL matches whenever they were on TV.

Was highly involved in athletics through my life and my school's colors were sky blue and white. Literally how I chose Man City back in like 2004.

Started watching EPL in 2009 to kind of familiarize myself with the players who would be playing in S. Africa in the 2010 World Cup. Knew absolutely nothing about world soccer. A major source of info was the "Premier League Review Show" on Fox Sports. I keyed in on a couple of players--Carlos Tevez of Manchester City; and Jimmy Bullard of Hull City. I just liked the way they played and kind of adopted them as my teams to follow. Bullard kept getting injured, Hull got relegated, and City was pretty good under Hughes' last season. Plus I became impressed with Toure, Kompany, and Zabaleta. Been solidly behind City ever since.
Aguero's goal against QPR in 2012 ranks second only to Warren Morris' home run in terms of greatest sports moments for me.

Saw the Aguero goal to win it all and fell in love with the team. Celebrated the championship hard.
JK. Big Oasis fan back in middle school (2000ish) and saw a picture of them rocking the old brother jerseys. Plus my friends all liked United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. I always liked underdogs (if we could even be called that then ). Stuck with them ever since.

Really? In the states or in France? They're my secondary club since I lived in Lyon for a while. They had just won the fourth Ligue 1 title in a row when I was over there.

I think we all do. But I meant club teams specifically. Sorry if OP was confusing.

Is this were Liverpool fans tell everyone else they are better than us.
And how they are not band wagoners with their hipster trendy pick of a team.

I chose Atletico from pes where they weren't even called Atletico Madrid it was like red Madrid or something due to lack of licensing rights I fell in love with Kun and Forlan and Simao etc... All of them under different names too had to do some research. They are still probably my favorite club to watch, although I am more for Kun than I am any club
