A girls softball team accused of intentionally losing at the Little League World Series was eliminated on Tuesday after being ordered to play a special play-in game.

The team from Snohomish, Wash., lost the game, 3-2, to a team from Polk City, Iowa, which had been the victim of the alleged game-fixing.

There was a tournament set up with rules and this team played within the rules to give themselves the best chance to win the tournament.

The the tournament changes the rules and fricks them over. bullshite but hilarious.

You also play within the spirit of the rules.

So you change the rules next year. Not mid stream.

They purposely threw a game in order to eliminate another team to avoid facing them. Reading more info the coach did obviously throw the game (bunting with 2 strikes, 2 outs, no one on).

Coaches like that are a disgrace to youth sports.

They didn't really frick them though. They just made them play the team they should have played in the first place. They tried to rig the results and couldn't win on the field. I would agree they got fricked if they just arbitrarily kicked them out. They got the chance to settle it on the field and lost.

They didn't. Rule was already on the books

Its almost like they forgot they are kids playing in little league. I may not play my best line-up but there's no way I get kids to purposely suck.

This.

Put your backups in there so they get some meaningful playing time (they'll be going against a team that's trying to win) and save your best pitcher for another game.

That gives you plausible deniability because it's a reasonable long-term strategy. NFL teams aren't TRYING to lose when they rest their starters in Week 17. They're just letting guys heal and giving their bench some reps and if they happen to lose, so be it.

This guy is too stupid yo throw a game. Why is bunting with in those situations? That's not obvious at all. Just tell them to swing and miss, duh.

That does make a difference.

Either way, coaching a team to lose on any level is bullshite.

When I was in high school teams threw games in our area all the time in basketball. It happened to us my Jr. year and we got left out of the area tournament. My dad, the coach, cursed us out about. He said if we had taken care of business like we should have we wouldn't have been in that position. He had a point.

There are examples all the time in adult and professional sports of teams trying to lose intentionally for one reason or another.

But Little League? I get that it's the World Series, but still.

I guess they didn't want to face Iowa in the championship? Because in the semis, they cross pools (pool A champ plays pool B runner up, etc).

Trying to control who your opponents are almost always seems to backfire.

If it was a truly meaningless game from the Washington team, they should have just rested their best players and allowed the backups to play, but told the backups to play hard and play to win. They probably would have lost, the backups would get some playing time, everyone is happy.

Coach is an idiot.
