For all the griping about how much NFL has changed, when do ratings drop?

When do fans finally get tired and quit watching?

They don't. All the people naysaying the NFL, doubting its future success, saying it's doomed to fail, etc. are idiots. It's better than ever, and its profitability is better than ever.
I can't wait for a new season.

They don't. There is a lot less bitching in the majority of the country where NFL > CFB. The viewpoint is a little different in SEC territory.

Never...NFL does a couple things that makes it the best...short season with limited number of games and super-intense playoffs. It keeps people interested because every game matters. The NBA , NFL and NHL all have longer seasons, play way more games, and have less dramatic playoffs. If football were extended to an 8 month sport, 32 regular season games, and long playoffs, the ratings would nose dive.

lol
u really believe fans push the ratings????
It's office pools, fantasy football, gambling who pushes the ratings.
And for christs sake they play 16 games. And the majority of teams cannot sell out for 8 home games, so really who's pushing the ratings?
Let's also add, the NFL forces teams to give injury updates, for gambling purposes(betting, fantasy, etc). It's not for fans.

The ratings don't drop bc fans don't like the alternatives...

Are you drunk?
ETA: Do you not consider sports bettors and fantasy football participants fans? They probably watch more NFL games than anyone.

I have already turned to other things, I still watch, but it's no longer "must see" anymore.
Has nothing to do with rule changes or anything, but the closer the game got to being catered to the fantasy football crowd, the less I cared.

Haven't ratings already started to drop? The Walking Dead has been beating Sunday Night Football in the ratings recently. And it's been a regular occurrence not something that's happened just once or twice.

The rules are catered to target an average of 46 points scored per game. That number lines up with historical trends of entertaining eras.

quote:It happened 5 out of 8 nights where TWD and SNF overlapped. However, those 5 TWD episodes were the only show of any kind that touched the NFL's ratings. 45 of the 50 most-watched TV episodes during the NFL regular season (i.e., fall/winter 2014-15) were NFL games. The other 5 were the abovementioned TWD episodes.

Also, for each of the NFL's 17 regular season weeks, an NFL game was the most-watched show on television. And we all know the playoffs rate much higher than the regular season.

Less and less kids are playing. Once the talent level drops (could be a decade or more away) the quality will go down. Slowly leading to a drop in ratings.

when people are led by the nose into thinking the new circus is of life and death importance

I already have quit watching or caring.
I would watch the Saints in the playoffs.
as a former season ticket holder, I gave them up and quit watching/caring when the prices went through the roof. yes, there was some withdrawal at first but now the NFL season is pretty much a non event; ditto the super bowl. I couldn't tell you who won last years super bowl.
