I remember back around 2000 FQ fest was more laid back, mostly locals it seemed like.

Now majority out of towners and a PITA to go to

Who cares if it feels touristy. That's what it should feel like. More people = More Money. Yeah it sucks it crowded but NOLA is growing and people need to accept that.

I and alot of other people care actually. One of the great parts of NOLA "culture" is the big events and fest always felt like a family event. Now they dont

Unfortunately, every fest in NOLA is starting to kinda suck. The cities events now almost feel more touristy, which it never used to feel like that

That's because all the transplants think that "being a New Orleanian" means going out to every one of these events in droves. I avoid all of this shite like the plague.

ETA: I moved because my wife is born and bred in NOLA and that was where we were going to live by damn. So I have a right to tell people to get off my lawn

We do too. We go to Lafites for one drink and then get away from the crowd. It really is amazing how different these festivals feel now. I only moved in 2010 to Nola but it feels completely different now

I remember going for the first time 7 or 8 years ago and it was substantially smaller. Most of the people who went actually did the run or walked it. Its a lot different now for sure. It's annoying to hear people tell their out of town friends about it, ie "it's this sweet thing where everyone wears a dress and goes to the Quarter to drink!" , when you can tell they have no idea there's an actual run or registration. Day drinking in the quarter is fun, but I feel like a tool just showing up in a red dress because it's a big thing to do now.

I didn't realize it had gotten so big! I went when I lived in NOLA (2001-2004), and it was just a small quirky race back then. It was a lot fun, though!

Isn't there a registration party at the Fairgrounds? Is that any fun?
