Decided to switch over to the dark side that is Comcast bc they're offering the most bang for the buck Internet in my area.

I do need to upgrade my modem and router as I currently have uverse and previously had Cox. Any suggestions that won't break the bank?

If you are not upgrading the speed of service much, then what you have should work fine. This is assuming you don't have any issues now.

I actually use that combination with Comcast, and it's really quick from one end of the house to the other (two floors + finished basement).

Also, despite all the hate Comcast gets, I just got a letter in the mail from them stating that my internet speed for my plan (Blast!) was increasing by 50mbs as part of my plan for the same cost, please reset your modem to re-sync. I've actually had rock solid service from them. It is a little pricey, but they are the only provider in the area who offers these speeds. No competition. I at least understand.

Thanks for the replies. I'm upgrading the speed of my service and my current setup is not compatible with Comcast and is also not Docsis 3. So, time to upgrade to at least that. Going from 24mbps to at least 105mbps depending on the promotions available.

This is more important than brand. Make sure whatever you get, it is a DOCSIS3.0 modem.

That being said, the combo linked above really is good.

I use this modem but with the Asus AC68U - if for no other reason, it stands vertically making it cool more effectively. Best combination I've ever used.

I've had the combo linked above for about a year and couldn't be more pleased. With that being said, I live alone in a 750 sq/ft apartment, so it might have been overkill
But I'm going to be moving into a 2000 sq/ft townhouse in a few months with some friends, so the I should still be fine.

I use the Mot SB6141 / Asus RT-N66U combo with Comcast and am very pleased with it.

If you have a small house / apartment or want to save a few $'s the Mot SB6121 / Asus RT-N12 combo is solid for $100.

Coater, there's several modem/router combos available but personally, I'd not opt for one. First, I believe wireless performance is better in a standalone unit (mine was without doubt) and secondly, if either part fails you're looking at a replacement for the failed unit and maybe, even both all over again.

bump for another question

i'm going to go ahead and get a new router because this comcast one sucks. do i have any options since i've got phone service through this modem/router combo? or do i have to keep the comcast modem because of the phone (and have them turn off the router capability so i can use the new router for better coverage).

cliff notes: is there a modem that handles voice service for comcast or am i stuck with theirs?

thanks

i ended up sticking with the modem/router combo from comcast but added a second router (archer 9 by tp-link). speeds went from 0.5mbs to 82mbs (and i haven't hooked up my wifi-extender). my desktop (iMac) is running off wifi on the other side of the house from the router. if anyone is looking for a router i highly recommend this one.
