Why do they keep racing American Pharoah?

Horse won the triple crown and is a rockstar in the horse racing community. Let the dude live out his days as a stud getting as much as he can handle. The stud fee for him will be outrageous anyways so there will be money coming in left and right. God forbid in one of his next races he breaks a leg and they have to put him down.

Agree 100%. He already won the Triple Crown so there's nothing left for him to do on the track.

Old owners have the right to race him until the end of the race season I believe.

Because all but 1 of the triple crown winners raced after.
Because he still hasn't proven himself against older horses.
Because I think he is still getting better.
He also hasn't really broken any records or anything.
He is good for racing bc too many retire young from injury and/or fear of losing. We are breeding weaker horses because of this. Hell, he's only run 9 times.
If he beats older horses and wins the breeders cup he will get a better book of mares. At this point, if I had a mare, I'd much rather breed to his dad. Pharoah's dam side is somewhat weak and pioneer of the Nile has now produced a triple crown winner.
Do you know anything about or even follow racing? Because it's these casual fans having these stupid arguments that make me want to punch things. I freaking HATE the he won a triple crown so should be retired crew.

There's plenty left for him to do on the track. He may have won a bunch of grade 1 races, but he has yet to run in a non restricted stake.
Don't worry, they are playing it safe. He'll stay age restricted til the classic,
And as far as a broken leg goes, would you like me to list all the nice stallions we lost to paddock accidents just this past year? Because horses don't only break things in races. Some even die while breeding.

Sorry. I've been having this fight a lot on Facebook with my idiot horse show friends.

The owners of AP sold the breeding rights, so his stud fee doesn't concern them.

That would be terrible, but you know they have a HUGE insurance policy on him, right?
And I'll tell you exactly why they keep running him. It's good for the sport. The people absolutely love him. It's bringing coverage to a sport that needs all the coverage that they can get. Oh and the race today was worth $1.75 million. So they had $1.05 million reasons to run him today.

Thanks, that makes sense. I always assumed that the Crown was the biggest payoff due to the fact that it brought in millions of casual fans who can't even name a race outside the Big Three.

6,000 people showed up yesterday morning at Monmouth park (MONMOUTH!) to watch him gallop around the track fairly slowly. They a screamed when he went by. Lots of them made signs. He is so good for racing right now.

Sorry I get so into this. It's just...
He's soooo good for the sport right now. And we haven't even seen how good he really is.

Oh, and look at this.
I don't think they will take him there because Bob doesn't love that race. We will see what happens.

And Saratoga sold out for reserved seating for travers day with just the possibility of him running.

Keep fighting the good fight. I don't know shite about this, but you seem passionate and logical here.

All of this. Well said. Let's see what he does at Keeneland.

I couldn't think of a better track for him to run the Classic. Speed bias will make it fairly easy on him. I can't wait until we get to Breeders Cup weekend.

I drive past there twice a day. Not looking forward to that weekend at all.

Yeah, I live about 5 minutes down Man O War from Keeneland. Luckily I won't have to worry about the traffic that weekend because I will be heading in the opposite direction.
