Singular

LSU has played a top 25 team OOC every year for a while now.

In 2013, LSU played:

(4-8) TCU
(2-10) UAB
(4-8) Kent State
(8-6) Furman

Who was ranked on that schedule? It wasn't UAB, who doesn't currently have a football team. I guess Furman was ranked in the FCS if you want to count that.

I could probably go back further, but it only took two seasons. Besides, Ohio State's 2015 OOC schedule was specifically called out.

If this gets Penn State playing Pitt and Syracuse annually again, I'm all for it. Those are the real rivals if we have any. Not Maryland

Got PSU-Pitt 2016-2019, can't wait for that. Looking at your other team, I saw Florida has an OOC game outside of the Sunshine State in 2017. Neutral site against Michigan. The last time that happened was, what, '91?

1991 against Syracuse. And not only was that the last game outside of Florida, it was the last Power 5 non-conference game against someone other than FSU or Miami

Yeah, I can't wait for the Pitt series Really hoping we out-draw Pitt at Heinz Field. I always love it when visiting teams take over stadiums

whats the difference between Notre Dame joining a conference and playing 8 or 9 power 5 teams? bc everyone says ND should join a conference but they never play a weak schedule

Because Notre Dame doesn't have to worry about getting potentially tripped up in a conference title game.

All I know is that the Huskers narrowly escaped the wrath of the mighty Pokes last year. LSU BE WARNED!

No but they usually play 2 service academies instead.

I think limit it to one, maybe an instate team if you can help it. These games are huge sources of revenue for these schools. Non-Power 5 teams should still be able to schedule multiple

That was a Cowboys Classic game between two ranked teams. It wasn't as big as Oregon in 2011, but it was pretty good. TCU has had a lot of success since 2009. That turned into a disastrous season for them.

Ohio State plays plenty of good OOC games.

I agree, but he tried to make the point that 2015 is the only year they haven't played a top level OOC schedule. Ohio State has consistently scheduled top level competition. That competition hasn't always stayed there, but they can't help that when schedules are made years in advance.

TCU was, you know the team that was Top 5 last year and starts the year #2 this year? I guess they never recovered from LSU in the opener...

Eta: I never said Ohio State doesn't schedule hard OOC games.

True, I felt that way with Washington and Arizona on LSU's schedule. That was a respectable home and home against P5 schools, but they weren't very strong either game. West Virginia worked out as bigger matchups. I like that LSU is travelling to Syracuse this year and Wisconsin (Lambeau) next year.

Back to dropping FCS, I understand that there are logistics but also strategy in scheduling. If there was a cushion of just one more loss when evaluating team resumes, I think we'd all enjoy higher profile games without chipping away too much at the drama of the regular season. And I know that's easier said than done.

They still finished 4-8 that year.

Nope, but several have, including the original poster of my response.

Whatever schools want to do is fine with me. Schedule who you want. We're smart enough to analyze schedule strength, which is exactly why the Buckeyes jumped the Big 12 in the final week.

And which is it, everybody? We bitch that there aren't enough quality OOC, but at the same time we bitch that there are too many bowl games, which are almost exclusively OOC.

Because the quality of top OOC games are better than the quality of the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl or the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
