Jade Mountain is the best resort on the island

We honeymooned there in April this year. Stayed at Rendezvous. The resort was great.
We hiked Gros Piton and that was a Mother fricker... but it was worth it. You can see 70% of the island from the peak.

Nope...the island is totally uninhabited

Honeymoon there for 7 nights at Sandals Halcyon. Seriously just got back yesterday. As said, island infrastructure is poor, but the resort was fine. Staff is attentive and the views/water is gorgeous.
Probably won't go back though. Thought it was going to be a bit more elegant than it was. Rooms were ok but nothing special. Food and drink felt like I was on a cruise ship a little nicer than a Carnival. I guess you can't expect to be wined and dined extensively at an all-inclusive resort.
Overall probably would have gone somewhere else just because food and drink are a huge priority to me.

I wouldn't judge the whole island based on your stay at Sandals.
If those things are important to you stay at pretty much any other resort. I would rather stay at Jade Mountain for 4 nights than Sandals for 7.

Wife and I went in 2010. We got our PADI scuba certifications there. Great diving and beautiful deep water next to the Petons

Travel agencies really push St. Lucia for honeymoons to people with less travel experience.....resorts there must pay good commissions

Yeah meant I wouldn't go back to a Sandals.

I don't mean to be a dick, but isn't that sort of conventional wisdom of what you're getting with something like Sandals? What could you have seen or heard that gave you a different expectation?

1. The total price I paid.
2. The travel agent that booked our trip.
3. The one lady I work with that raved about it.
4. The reviews online.

Resort was fabulous, but rest of island was a shithole and very poverty stricken.
In my experience, this is typical of every island I've visited in the Caribbean.
If there's one that breaks this mold, let's hear it.

The Caymans, Grand Cayman in particular.

I was there in May. It's a real shitehole.
Saw this after walking around, and it really sums it up for me:
ETA: They did have an IGA.

Honeymooned there 20 years ago. Really enjoyed it. Stayed at Jalousie Plantation (other side of the island from the airport). Believe the name has changed since then. One of my favorite trips (not just because it was our honeymoon).
