if you're just now getting a bill i'd imagine the ER doc's accounting never sent it out. they'd have put a lien on the case as soon as they were notified and if they somehow didn't know, YOU would have gotten the bill a long time ago. i would put money that the attorney never knew of the bill

did the uninsured motorist ever suffer any consequences for his wreck and not being properly insured?

sadly they rarely face any real charges

Not that I am aware of, it sucks. I had to pay for rental car out of pocket too.

At the end of the day, the bills are technically the patient's responsibility. But that's part of the attorney's job to take care of those unpaid balances (with PIP or Medpay involved) in my experience. I guess there could be some post-settlement agreement that the patient is to pay the bills directly but I don't think those are as common as they used to be.

Your attorney probably didn't have that bill at the time of payment. Not sure how long ago it happened, but I would contact your attorney. Did he make any claim against your Med Pay? You might be able to get him to file Med Pay claim against your policy and get that bill paid that way, depending on how the release was worded.

You guys may remember I got into a car accident with broken bones, totalled car and was told by law enforcement that the person that hit me had insurance. It turned out they didn't. I had an attorney handle it and he only went after my uninsured motorist and didn't sue the other party.
I just got a bill in the mail for the emergency room a year later. Wasn't my attorney supposed to pay those out of the funds?
Get Gordon and get it done!

If the bill was left off the settlement statement when all med bills were paid, the Dr may take less if you have to pay out of pocket.

Did you have health insurance at the time? If so, Ochsner should have sent it to your health insurer.

Dude I'm licensed in 6 states Louisiana is the only state corrupt enough to allow lawyers to pay doctor bills and lend their clients money. All the other states in licensed all you can do is pay transcripts, court costs and expert witness fees no operations, doctor visits, medicines or buying them stuff. It's cray as shite
