I'm rebuilding an old mustang for a daily driver/ sleeper car. So I'm debating on which crate engine to put in it.

Option 1: Ford 5.0 coyote
Option 2: Ford Windsor-block 351

Any car guys here?
Is one obviously better than another?

get one from a F-150. Exactly the same as the Mustang 5.0 except for the price and oil filter location.

The 5.0 is a great engine. But don't overlook the 4.6 either. Super strong design that is wicked with a supercharger.

66. It's my first car. Time to mid-life crisis the frick out of it. Haha.

I want the engine to be enough to really kill it when I want to have some fun, but i don't want so much power that the Mrs. can't use it.
So, stroked out 500HP+ beasts might be too much.

Choose one and explain why.

I also saw a guy that had a "fun" switch. The car sounded normal, but on red lights he'd hit the switch and it would bypass the regular muffler and make that hot rod sound. that would be kinda cool.

Doubt the f150 intake manifold would fit under the hood. And I would also imagine that the 4.6 will not fit between the front fender wells. That is , if I remember right . It's been years.

pretty sure they're the same
shite,i was wrong all the way around.

Different cams, intake, lower compression(10.5 vs 11) and forged crank in Stang vs cast in F150

347" stroker will give you enough torque to have fun with without having to have hude hp numbers. Choose your cam and heads to work together, I prefer roller set ups but flat tappet is fine for mild motors thar are going to just see street use. I'm not up on all the different Ford heads but there are many matched top end packages out there call Summit or Jegs and talk to a rep they will steer you in the right difectoon

I had a 65 in high school, you better do a lot of work on the suspension, steering, and brakes if you're going to put 500hp in that thing. As I recall they are a rolling death trap.

ETA: Also I'm not 100% positive, but I don't believe the coyote will fit. Those early mustangs have limited space in the engine bay. A 5.0 or 351W based stroker setup is probably the way to go.

If you have the cash the FRPP 5.0 Coyote Aluminator is an excellent street/strip bullet. You get a nearly full dressed engine full of race-grade forged parts should you decide to add a supercharger later on. You'll be looking at about $11,000 up front plus building the fuel system up to the rails. FRPP doesn't make the old 351W crate engines like they used to. Only 427 stroker options that need intakes and fuel systems. They used to offer a 393 package that would be perfect for about $6,000 and those where tough engines. Now it's either the 351W based 427 or the 302-based 363's. All have excellent parts in them and are built to handle a lot of power reliably. Just cost a lot more with fewer options.
