I hope this car isn't in great shape already bc I'd really hate you for ruining a good 66 mustang. It if isn't, then knock yourself out with it and have fun.

Option 1: Ford 5.0 coyote

I am doing this. I have a 92 LX Notchback. I went with a low compression aluminator motor that can handle boost, since I will probably go with a whipple. More expensive but unless it is a true track car, better off with it for fuel economy too.

I considered a 363 stoker motor but really wanted the coyote.

Post your email if you want to discuss.

Thanks

Coyote is a 5.0

Well..kinda.

It's a very wide engine, much more so than the SBF 5.0 HO. Wider than the big blocks and probably nearing the 427 Cammer. Still room to fit but forget swapping headers and he might need a relocation kit for the oil filter (which FRPP has). It's a little shorter fully dressed, more so without the carb stuff. It's a whole lot lighter than any iron small block option though.

This thread is a great example of why the next topic chicken adds to the site is a car forum.

Future BIL has a '65 notch with a high revving 289 windsor. Rode in it once and it's a blast. Those cars are so light, you don't need much power.

I had a 65 in high school, you better do a lot of work on the suspension, steering, and brakes if you're going to put 500hp in that thing. As I recall they are a rolling death trap.
I'm upgrading the suspension, drivetrain, steering, brakes, A/C, sound system. The whole bit.

I fully restored it in HS as my first car, but I have no interest in making it a trailer queen. Plus, with the non-synchronized manual transmission, there's no way I'd let my Mrs drive it in BR traffic.

I am going to bring it to a specialty shop to have them do all of the work. Piss on that. I've been through a rebuild once. And I know that i don't have the time, space, or patience to do this full job again. Give me a percentage markup and just do it.

FRPP doesn't make the old 351W crate engines like they used to.
I saw that. :sad face:
I was looking into doing this about 5 years ago (getting my plan ready for the 50th anniversary of the car). And between then and now, they only do the stroker and the Coyote.

I'm not that upset, because I can still get the 351w if I still want it, but with the recent advances in crate engines (e.g. the Coyote), I don't know if I still want that... hence the thread: which is supposed to be 351w vs Coyote.

She's got a few blemishes here and there, but the majority of the parts are original. However, this isn't a hidden 500GT gem. It's the most produced, least valuable version possible.... but it's got a shite-ton of sentimental value.

I'm hoping that the lack of needed cosmetic costs will be able to be put into upgrading the pure performance.

Although I don't think I'll need to modify the towers, chassis, etc., I am open to modern steering/suspension upgrades as I plan on this being a hybrid racer/ 3rd vehicle. It was one of the stipulations for me getting full budget approval. The Mrs. said that she was fine with whatever I wanted to do as long as it would be a functional, drivable, 3rd vehicle for us/her to use instead of a pure fun car.

Deal... lol. Sucker.....

I'm not worried about fuel economy to be honest.
But, I'd love to talk shop. I don't really have a gear head buddy. So, that would be nice. Don't you play golf? We could talk cars over 18 & a six pack some time!
