In-depth knowledge of the CBA and front office tactics are not my strong points, but given how little financial flexibility we have, we can't make much of a splash anyway.

If we sign him to an offer sheet, we can't S&T. Not that we have much to give Houston in a S&T anyway.

This means the Pelicans have $2,589,000 remaining of the MLE to utilize. Adding in raises over the course of four years the maximum offer New Orleans can put on the table is for just over $11 million. Is that enough to pull a player like K.J. McDaniels in restricted free agency?

Which is why we haven't signed him to an offer sheet. Once we do we can't S&T.

So we are either waiting on Josh Smith or seeing if we can work on a S&T.

I'm sure they are trying to get something good for him by posturing that they are going to keep him, but he's a somewhat marginal player that played like 9 total minutes for them and would be buried behind all of their wings.

Give them a conditional 2nd and be done with it.
