Just finished book #2 (Half The World) and really can't recommend it enough. Book #3 (Half a War) Releases July 28th.

quote:

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY TIME AND THE WASHINGTON POST • LOCUS AWARD WINNER

“A fast-paced tale of betrayal and revenge that grabbed me from page 1 and refused to let go.”—George R. R. Martin

quote:

“Half a King is my favorite book by Joe Abercrombie so far, and that’s saying something.”—Patrick Rothfuss

quote:

“As in all Abercrombie’s books, friends turn out to be enemies, enemies turn out to be friends; the line between good and evil is murky indeed; and nothing goes quite as we expect. With eye-popping plot twists and rollicking good action, Half a King is definitely a full adventure.”—Rick Riordan

quote:

Enthralling! An up-all-night read.”—Robin Hobb

“Polished and sharp, perhaps his most technically proficient novel yet . . . I dare you to read the first chapter and try not to turn the next page.”—Brent Weeks

For some reason they are listed as "Young Adult Fantasy", I didn't get that from these books at all beyond the main characters being young.

that's the only reason i haven't checked these out yet. I love Abercrombie's other stuff. Is it comparable to his previous books?

Abercrombie has been recommended time and again on this board and is considered one of the preeminent fantasy writers today, but I haven't been able to get into him. I tried the Blade Itself and it just didn't grab me. Of course, neither has Brandon Sanderson and it took me forever to get into Steven Erikson, so maybe I just need to give him more of a shot.

Or maybe a different series of Abercrombie's is for me. Like this one.

If GRRM likes it, it must at least have nudity and very descriptive scenes involving food.

I'm in.

Joe has a certain style that always ALWAYS end the same. I hope this is different.
