I really don't understand the bashing of this show. I'm enjoying it, but it obviously isn't going as well as season one (yet), but that would be ridiculously high expectations to even have to expect the same as the previous story.
I see everyokne bashing Kitsch character and I can't help but feel like obviously they're just kind of building him up, extremely slowly I'll admit, but I think eventually he may end up being a critical character later in the show. He wouldn't be in here if it was just going to be about him maybe being gay. Obviously, they could make it like that and it will be really dumb, but I'm expecting him to play a critical role at some point.

I haven't watched the new episode yet but only a 7 page thread the day after is not a good sign for this show.

The issue is NP is trying to do a character study with bad writing, bad characters and bad acting.
If I'm HBO and we renew for a third season, I tell NP to make it a straight forward murder mystery, and don't try another character study. The yellow king was a great idea until NP basically abandoned it, and the murder of Casper could be intriguing but all we are getting are shitty VV monologues and a CHP officer in denial of his sexuality.

That paper mâché monologue was just awful

I just want to say that I called out Woodrugh as gay in the E1 thread and almost got laughed off of the board by a few people.

I pretty much agree with all of this. It's certainly not a homerun but its been pretty solid.
VV was way better this episode and CFs character is still pretty badass although it's somewhat cliche.
The whole Kitsch thing seems soo forced. It's like they even noticed it in the show when the gay trick dude was like "they'll never let you in with that troubled cop inuendo" or whatever it was he said..
McAdams has been weak too, although CF helps her out because the chemistry is good.

Everyone wants to be a film critic.

This show is beyond reproach according to r/truedetective

I don't think this show would be a major hit on its own, but it is fighting a hopeless battle since it is no doubt going to be constantly measured against season 1
It's hard to watch it objectively on its own, but if you can, you won't find it to be terrible, but still just decent

I really dont understand why he is needed or the purpose of his character besides to add in a gay spin.

Along with is eyes burned Caspere also had his privates blown off, then in the scene at the club one of the gay hookers said that he liked to watch. Coincidence, I think not.
Calling it now, Woodrugh or Churchman is the raven masked guy.

What we are seeing here is the second album thing you see with musicians. They spend years developing the material that ends up on their first album then they have to start from scratch for their second album and have to do it in a year or two which means it's normally not near as good as the first outing.
I'm gonna see it through but obviously this has been a big let down.

yup, i said this earlier in the thread. pizolatto was pretty hesitant to do a second season (he certainly knew this) and i guess the success of the first season just made him feel like he had to

My critiques of thus season have nothing to do with expectations from season 1. The writing is pretty bad...several times during dialogue I could hear the writer writing words instead of real characters saying things. It is jarring.
The central story about Vinci and corruption and a waked out bird man are really cool elements. Last night became law and order vinci...let's go knock on doors and interview random weird characters...the scene at the mayors house was comical...in a bad way.
That said...it's not all bad. I love Collin Farrell character...he is the only one so far with a real arch and motivation you can identify with.

VV's guy that he couldn't get a hold of last night and then shoved him when he saw Stan was dead.
Posted on 7/6/15 at 10:29 am to tigereye1760
Gotcha. That guy is skethcy. I think he may be in cahoots with Vaughns wife...she said something weird to him in the first episode..."everyone gets touched"

I feel much better about the show today than I did last Monday. VV was much better last night. Still 5 episodes to go, but I can see it getting better as it goes.
