Neither of us know what happened.
A sharp turn in wet sand...that's all we know. It could have been a fluke accident. I Want to think he wasn't purposefully endangering the kid.

I don't think you have to read between the lines to see that he was being careless. Even the press release says "allegedly took a sharp turn on the wet sand"
I live in LP and from what I've heard, he was being a little immature (shocked)... going too fast, tying to throw sand. Two things that made things worse: an extra body sitting behind him and this was after a lot of rain.

Reading some of the comments from the wafb article according to people who were there they were riding a side by side, not a 4 wheeler with the kid on the back. Is it to far of a stretch for you to think that an accident actually occured????

I honestly feel bad for the guy and what he has to now live with, no matter what the root cause was.
I get the feeling that a lot of people here are crucifying the guy like yall think he doesn't give a shite about the whole thing.
I feel even worse for the kid and the kids family but I can't imagine what the driver is going through either.

I do think if he was impaired it would have come out with the fact that he was charged and it didn't...so I tend to believe he wasn't impaired.
Information like this is not going to be released in a ongoing investigation. It was stated earlier that something was found at the scene. What that means exactly? I'm not sure. Purely speculations at this point on my part until the investigation is completed.

That's why he was charged then, shouldn't have let kid ride back there

I'm going off of what was posted in this thread .. Most have said the kid was on the back .. Side by side ?? On two different ATVs ? Please elaborate ..

First I've heard side by side. I went to wafb's website and I don't see those comments on the article.

How do you flip one of those? I doubt it's an easy thing to do.

Are they top heavy or something? I have never driven one.

Yeah. And on the wrong kind of surface, that becomes exacerbated.

no idea, I only ride mine back and forth to the deer stand or duck blind and I'm going less than 5 mph
but if the kid was in the back bed that definitely explains why charges were filed so quick

Those things run a LOT faster than 40 mph ! Don't want my kids any where around them w/o proper training and FULL safety gear....same goes for the stupid HP of the new generation jet skis. Pair that machinery with go-pros and Jackass movies/videos = disaster over and over and over again !

No, that would of been negligent homicide, vehicular homicide is when drugs and or alcohol are involved, a much more serious charge, something made the investigating officer feel he was impaired

Very easy to do on a sandbar, and sand dunes at high speeds.

WAFB comments say it was negligent homicide but that's just hearsay

This is what I was getting at earlier
