I agree, and I support the military at every opportunity, but my apologies for saying that this holiday is much bigger than our military. They get their holidays, this is one everyone should share and feel equally included in.
To respond to the OP, it seems a little lazy on them to default to honoring the military, but doesn't make it a bad thing to do today. But, like I said, they're not capturing the bigger point of the holiday.

I agree. It is worthy to honor those who fought the Revolution (and other wars) for our country. But there is much more to it than just that on this day. I know its a slightly arbitrary date (as someone pointed out), but it is the date that was chosen to celebrate the event
With all the controversy about flags and what not lately, I would hate to think that it was more than just laziness and not trying not to offend. But it does make me wonder.
Then again I could be wrong.

more like damn near entirely arbitrary....
and even though the 4th might not necessarily be about the veterans of the military since the revolution, i still wanna thank each and every one of them here for their service and dedication to our great nation...

You couldn't be more wrong. Nothing is bigger than our military and absolutely nothing takes priority over honoring veterans.
People think that just because it's Christmas or Easter or whatever that they don't have to thank veterans. Newsflash, no veterans means no Christmas. Show some respect.

yeah, no.... Christmas does still occur outside the US... and even in muslim dominated countries, Christmas is still celebrated, so yeah....

ummm... literally and figuratively this is false...

I don't have a problem with honoring veterans anytime. Just think they should have included the fact that it is the day we celebrate the creation of the United States as well.

The fact that you even thought it may be wrong, and then took the time to start a thread to generate discussion about a non-issue like this, shows me that you are part of the problem in this country.

It's not "wrong"... But it's misguided.

I am not the problem in this country and you have no basis other than my original post, to back that up. You don't know who I am or anything about me. I have served in the military and AGAIN have no problem with them mentioning the veterans and honoring them. It cannot be done enough.
The ONLY issue I had is not acknowledging the meaning of the holiday at the same time

You are aware that you're an SJW right?
You should thank whatever higher power you believe in everyday that your life is so easy that you had to dig up this to complain about.

NO...I am not an SJW. I am nothing like those douchebags. I though it was odd that they don't mention the reason for the holiday. Did it offend me that was not acknowledged, yeah. But there is no right in this country not to be offended, so therefore I am SOL. But I am not pushing an agenda against them for it, I am not asking for a protest or movement to change it. I only stated my opinion on the subject and asked others opinion on it as well.
And at the end of the day, I agree with what several others have said. That is was not wrong but misguided.

Look bro, veterans fought for your freedom of speech. That doesn't mean that you have the right to not honor them on holidays. If you see a veteran and don't honor them on the fourth then you deserve an arse kicking and if I see you mouthing off about not honoring vets I might just give it to you.

I'm confused, What am I supposed to be triggered over? I looked at the linked photo/post but didn't see anything that rustled my jimmies.
Was the FB post edited or am I missing something? I'll hang up and drink my beer.

I just found it odd that they did not mention anything about what the 4th means. Just that they thanked veterans. Nothing wrong with thanking veterans whenever, but why not say more about the holiday and what it means.
I just found it a little odd for an institution of higher education, to not mention the historical meaning.
Wanted to know if anyone else saw it like I did. Most apparently don't. In this day and age I feel it's important to remind or educate people what each of these holidays are about and the differences in between them.
Just my opinion

This thread and the thought process behind it is a perfect example of why so many people hate mellinials
They may or not be offended but they flock to conflict and seek it out even when nobody else sees it.

this day would instead be January 8th
