Apparently not as much as yours

I just don't think we stress the history of this country enough and that's why we have a lot of the problems that we do in this country. It was an opportunity missed...or skipped
I just found it odd that they did not mention anything about what the 4th means. Just that they thanked veterans. Nothing wrong with thanking veterans whenever, but why not say more about the holiday and what it means.

I just found it a little odd for an institution of higher education, to not mention the historical meaning.

Wanted to know if anyone else saw it like I did. Most apparently don't. In this day and age I feel it's important to remind or educate people what each of these holidays are about and the differences in between them.

Just my opinion
NO...I am not an SJW. I am nothing like those douchebags. I though it was odd that they don't mention the reason for the holiday. Did it offend me that was not acknowledged, yeah. But there is no right in this country not to be offended, so therefore I am SOL. But I am not pushing an agenda against them for it, I am not asking for a protest or movement to change it. I only stated my opinion on the subject and asked others opinion on it as well.

And at the end of the day, I agree with what several others have said. That is was not wrong but misguided.
I am not the problem in this country and you have no basis other than my original post, to back that up. You don't know who I am or anything about me. I have served in the military and AGAIN have no problem with them mentioning the veterans and honoring them. It cannot be done enough.

The ONLY issue I had is not acknowledging the meaning of the holiday at the same time
I don't have a problem with honoring veterans anytime. Just think they should have included the fact that it is the day we celebrate the creation of the United States as well.
I agree. It is worthy to honor those who fought the Revolution (and other wars) for our country. But there is much more to it than just that on this day. I know its a slightly arbitrary date (as someone pointed out), but it is the date that was chosen to celebrate the event

With all the controversy about flags and what not lately, I would hate to think that it was more than just laziness and not trying not to offend. But it does make me wonder.

Then again I could be wrong.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe that is what kinda caught my attention more than the post itself. Just the overall apathy.

Either way...'Murica

I am over it and just wanted others opinions. I understand your point and think veterans should be honored all the time. Its just people always mix up the meaning of our national holidays. Confusing the meaning of Memorial Day versus Veterans Day etc
LOL fixed...noticed right after I posted

Just curious of others opinions here. IMHO, I fully support honoring our veteran's, but that is not what this holiday is about. It is about the birth of our nation and for a university not to acknowledge that seems out of place. Maybe knowledge history is just not a strong suit anymore, or more to the point, even less than I thought it was.

Thoughts, I'll hangup and listen.
