That's so sad! What's the saddest story you've ever heard?

I once knew a man who went for a walk. While on a walk his wife took a pistol and shot herself in the chest twice. She had recently been to inpatient psychotherapy and was not doing well at all. He thought he had the guns locked up securely but she somehow found the key. When he came back from his walk he found her on the floor of the kitchen and screamed her name. He then screamed how could you? She gained enough consciousness to tell him she was sorry but could not go on living that way and then died. He grieved himself tremendously over the next year until on the anniversary of her death he shot himself twice in the chest on the same spot in their kitchen. True story. They were both in their 80s and like family to me.

Other people's stories don't make me sad, or really cause much feeling at all.

I drive past a cemetary on my way to work each day. Last fall, I saw where two individuals were buried on the same day immediately adjacent to one another. From the first day after the funeral until now, each and every morning, there is a young man sitting there on a lawn chair by the graves. I am guessing they were his parents or someone else very close to him, because he hasn't missed a day in several months regardless of weather, etc.
makes me sad to think how this must have affected his life....

A few years ago my family was on a safari in Africa. And my cousin Mufasa, was trampled to death by a pack of wildabeasts. And we all took it really hard.

Saw on the TV about some people maybe taking down a flag 800 miles away from me. It was devastating.

A couple months ago, I woke up and turned on the TV to find U-Verse had changed the font on the TV guide.
It's moments like this that just shatter your reality. Make you realize just how tiny you really are in the grand scheme of things.
