I'm all for carrying a sidearm in the woods just because we can. But never really thought of it as protection. More for shooting a armadillo or water snake if given the chance.

If I'm on my own property I'll almost always have a sidearm to do some target shooting.

We catfish from the bank a bit at the hunting camp and I usually have my Single Six Ruger. If the fish aren't biting we shoot cans or something floating in the water.

Sometimes before hunting season starts a might carry it while working on deer stands, but more times than not I don't.

I don't feel unprotected if I don't have it. Maybe I'd feel different if we had hogs or bears IDK.

Right, it's like a pocket knife. It's a tool. I've never viewed either one as an object of protection in the woods.

If you see a snake in time to shoot it you've either seen it in plenty enough time to avoid it or it already bit you. I like blasting cottonmouths as much as anybody, but to say I NEED a gun while bow hunting is hilarious.
