And you can't drive the ball straight Very believable story.
I am inconsistent with my driver. I only hit about 50% of fairways. I hit a lot of 3-wood and 3-iron off of tees because its a safer play. Golf is a lot of mitigating risk to improve scoring.
Do you know anything about golf? An 8-10 handicap being inconsistent with driver accuracy is unbelievable to you?

C'est moi.

Although I have been picking it up lately since marriage and getting the feel back around the greens. I want to be playing around a 5 by the time summer ends hopefully.

He was straighter back then, but never straight.

You should be good. I basically quit after HS and through college then started playing again after I graduated from LSU. I was back down to a 5 about 2 years ago when I was playing regularly again. Then I got the yips about this time last year...started hitting balls again last week.

And if all of this is true, then your statement

It isn't. Driving it 300 and consistently straight is hard.
isnt accurate simply because most people arent as good at Golf as you are, therefore hitting it 300 is hard.
That's entirely fair.
I actually agree. I think what I should have said is that not just pros hit it 300. The group of guys I play regularly with, 3/4 hit it consistently around 300 off the tee and none are better than a 4 handicap.

I had this happen to me in college and it was so discouraging I hung the clubs up for over a year.
Sad times my friend, sad times

Yea, I know you don't hit legit 300.

So your answer is "no".

You MAY hit an occasional one 300, maybe. You don't hit 300 though.
Ive hit a few 300 yard drives, but they are certainly not the norm. I'm not going to say hitting 300 is easy, because to consistently do it, it's not.

Dude, you have no clue what you're talking about.
Country Clubs are filled with guys that hit their tee shots around 300 yards.

Lunch, I play a good bit with a good mix of folks
I will say that it's not as cut and dry as you think
But I do agree that way too many people claim it

You can't say hitting it 300 is easy and then say you don't do it because you aren't accurate with it. You either do or you don't. And I'd put money on your average straight drive not going 300 actual yards.
ETA: And just like that, I'm suckered into this same argument with someone that doesn't even hit driver saying it's easy. Well played internet.

I'll agree with this. I didn't mean to say its easy for every golfer, I mispoke. But its relatively common among men who have played their entire lives. Like I said, my regular golfing buddies, 3/4 hit it 300ish off the tee.
None very consistently straight though.

You'd lose.

Two separate questions. Its not like I shank my drives, but if I can almost guarantee a fairway shot with a 240 yard 3-iron, I'm taking that most of the time. Unless its a long hole that demands 3-wood which I hit about 260-270 or a driver which I hit about 300-310.
The longer I get, the less accurate I am. I really just mitigate risk.
Posted on 6/29/15 at 11:37 am to TheCaterpillar
I'd rather be 250 in the fairway than 300 in the high rough

Tricky response since I'd imagine he hits a draw

High draw.
Height being key word because into the wind the draw is exaggerated and harder to control.
