I think it has more to do with Balmer wanting to hit the reset button after the Sterling Era.

They could have changed the Logo without changing the uniforms

Honestly, their logo WAS a little too similar to LAL, imho.
Idk if this new look will grow on me or not, but I do understand the need for brand differentiation, especially given their recent success.
