Its obviously a throwaway pick but it can allow the team to talk to McKay and establish a relationship with the kid.

keep an eye on tigers signings through the summer
doubtful they will make a run at him, I think he ends up at LSU

I was telling a friend that I wouldn't be surprised to see a team take him as a "throwaway" pick, that way they have more money to throw at other drafted players.
But at 910, I doubt the slot money is anything that would persuade a higher drafted player.

Well, looks like he will be a Tiger.

Kind of reminds me of Jake Godfrey
His secondary stuff will determine how ready he is

One way or another. That video makes him sound like Lange. Good fastball with a hard curve!

The Detroit Tigers have a bonus pool of $7,114,300 to spend on players drafted in the first 10 rounds, plus their compensation round selection. The Tigers will select 22nd with a slot bonus of $2.1 million, and 34th, with a slot bonus of $1.8 million.

It's a 100k slot value I think. So if his magic number is still 2M they would have to pay 1.9 mill overslot
Posted on 6/10/15 at 3:46 pm to tigernation56
So they have about 4 mil to spend on 38 other rounds nothing to worry about he will be a tiger

How good are Mckay's secondary pitches and what are they?

Not to mention their top 4 picks are all high schoolers or underclassmen, meaning that is where they will end up having to spend their money (they wont be able to pay any of those guys under slot value enough to have the money for McKay). Looks like McKay is on the way!
ETA: Next years rotation sounds like a log jam, and I am stoked about it haha Great problem to have in college.

Yep. He'll be a tiger either in college or pro

No, that's just for picks within the top 10 rounds. Picks in rounds 11-40 do not count against the pool unless the bonus is over 100K, and then the amount in excess of 100 counts against it.
ETA: They also do not save money by not signing picks in rounds 11-40 as mentioned earlier in the thread. The pool is determined by the top 10 rounds only.

He's going to be a Tiger but for LSU not Detroit. He slipped to the 30th round because he made it clear LSU was his first priority unless someone got real stupid with the cash. If he was thinking pro ball first he would have made that clear and probably been a top 5 round pick. Welcome aboard Cole!

I have no idea how all of that draft slotting works. I'll leave it to Adam and others to figure out
Posted on 6/10/15 at 4:48 pm to Howyouluhdat
curve slider but all with down ward motion.

Look for McKay to be at LSU
