Get this idea out of your head right now. Going after any $20 million player besides a superstar like KD isnt' worth the cost. To clear that much cap space you have to let Asik walk, drop the MLE, Ajinca's bird righta and Gordon.

DeAndre Jordon or Goran Dragic
vs
Asik/Gordon/Ajinca/Gerald Green

It is not nearly as simple as "replacing" Asik with Jordan. And that's assuming you can dump Gordon. If you can't dump Gordon then you have to dump Tyreke or Ryno and since they make less than Gordon you'd have to sacrifice Cole and Pondexter as well.

While I tend to agree for the most part, let me play around on the other side.

Demps is fantastic at getting 7th, 8th, 9th men out of thin air. If you can get a stud, why not go get him and trust Dell to do it again.

Let's say you let Asik walk and can find a suitor for Gordon where you get nothing back, and that's how you land Jordan. Then, you just have the Room Exception after that. You would have

Jrue/Cole
Reke/
Q-Pon/
AD/Ryno
Jordan/

You would have the 56th pick, the Room Exception and minimum deals to fill out the roster. Not ideal, but at that point you trust in Dell to eventually work his magic and fill out spots 8-10 by February at the latest.

Again, not saying I am 100% on board with this plan, but I can make the argument.

I see no realistic way that Jordan comes to N.O. Besides, I seem to remember that he was considering Dallas if he doesn't sign a max deal with the Clippers.

We let go of Cunningham?

And if we do this, could we trade Anderson to help fill out the roster

While true, this is an exaggeration of sorts. Austin Rivers was worthless to us by the time we traded him, but it took the #10 pick to get him. Same thing can be said of Juju for Belinelli. Jason Smith took a late 1st (Brackens), so did Vasquez (Pondexter). Lopez took cap space that was available because we dumped Jack (the proceeds from trading our 1st for Bayless). I'm not saying he couldn't, just that we're running out of the "trash", which typically starts out as a C level asset, that he can turn into treasure.

Asik/Gordon is definitely the only option. You lose too much for sure if you can't find a taker for Gordon.

He got a lot of praise for it because of the low expectations he set for himself by having absolutely horrible 7th, 8th, and 9th men. Overall, he has performed below average in getting reliable bench players.
