TPSO seizes $800K in cash

ROBERT---Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that on May 26, 2015, two interstate travelers were detained pending investigation after a traffic stop led to the discovery of approximately $800,000.00 of US Currency.

Around 11:00 p.m., TPSO Sgt. Tommy Ferrand was stationed roadside on I-12 near Robert conducting radar surveillance for possible speeders when he identified a white F-150 traveling westbound 12 miles per hour over the indicated speed limit. At this time, Sgt. Ferrand initiated a traffic stop and came in contact with 41 year old Houston resident Frederick Brown. Upon contact, Brown stated that he was headed west through Tangipahoa Parish after working in Mississippi. While conducting the roadside investigation, Ferrand also came in contact with Brown’s passenger, 38 year old Tigress Brown. While speaking to Sgt. Ferrand, the female passenger relayed a conflicting story regarding the couples stay in Mississippi.

While completing the speeding citation and with suspicion heighten, Sgt. Ferrand asked Brown if he could perform a search of the vehicle. Brown responded that even though he had nothing illegal in the vehicle, he could not. With the assistance of additional TPSO deputies and the Hammond Police Department, Sgt. Ferrand proceeded to conduct a free air sweep around the F-150 with the use of TPSO K9 MAKO. While conducting the free air sweep of the F-150, TPSO K9 MAKO, positively alerted two times in the same area indicating the strong possibility that illegal narcotics were present. As part of the investigation, a search was conducted that resulted in the seizure of over an expected $800,000.00 in cash currency.

At this time, the investigation is currently on-going and there are no additional details to report.
