Lol. "Highly trained" ?
There is no standard for training police dogs. At. All.
They can easily be trained to alert on a handler's signal.
Google it yourself,,it's well known.

The dogs are trained to dig or sit when they smell drugs, which triggers automobile searches. But a Tribune analysis of three years of data for suburban departments found that only 44 percent of those alerts by the dogs led to the discovery of drugs or paraphernalia.

Not even half of their hits were accurate.

Next, anyone driving a car without a job or other visible means to pay for it's cost will have it, along with their other possessions stolen, I mean seized. I wonder where else this line of reasoning can take us.

So drugs don't have a lasting scent that could be detected by a k9?

Making things up is fun I guess.

The two things that strike me as complete fabrications by the cops:
- Stories don't line up. It's 11pm. She says they were in Mississippi for three days, he says two. Cop uses that as the reasoning...
- And then LOL at a drug dog alerting but there not being any drugs in the vehicle.

I would be willing to bet that they had a "tip" on the truck.

The dogs are trained to sniff out cash in denominations larger than a cop's salary.
It's the first thing they learn at the dog academy.

Oh, you think the police have decided that taking money from suspected drug dealers, even those that have no, you know, drugs on them, is as far as they want to go in stealing from people? That taking in any other situation would be just wrong?

Yall need to relax, I highly doubt they go to the paperwork trouble to confiscate 24.60, so you guys have nothing to worry about

You're absolutely right. For that amount, they'll just skip the paperwork.

Is a lasting scent considered possesion?

I don't give a flying frick what their story was, or whether they had a story at all. Civil asset forfeiture is a racket that would make Tony Soprano blush. Citizens should be able to travel with as much cash as they want, for any reason or no reason, and it should be nobody's damn business. If you want to bust them for drugs, bust them for drugs, if they're carrying any and you can find it. Cash is not a controlled substance-or shouldn't be.
this ... if cash is illegal, or some amount thereof, then put it in writing ...

So much anger in this thread

I think this one particular situation is ok. But apparently thinking on an individual basis is not allowed. It's either all or nothing with you.

I've been in my grandfather's car when he had at least $750k in the trunk, but this was 15 years ago.
And this is a 100% true story.
