A good lesson to take

Stolen from Bayoushooter:
quote:
I was mugged at gun point Thursday. Be aware.
For all of the people that carry concealed, I wanted to let you know what happened to me and remind you to be aware of what’s going on around you at ALL TIMES. My girlfriend and I were coming home from picking up some Taco Bell last Thursday night and were getting home at around 10:15pm. I didn’t notice but there was a car driving down my street slowly. My girlfriend and I were clowning around when getting out of the car and taking our time when it happened. A man came from around the side of a bush with a gun drawn yelling for us to give him money. When I had seen him, he was about 3 feet away and already had his pistol drawn and pointed at my girlfriends head. While standing next to her at gun point, he told me that he wanted my wallet, so I gave it to him. The whole time, I had my hand in my pocket with my LC9 in my hand. I was scared to pull and fire because he was so close to her, I didn’t want to take the chance if him hitting her while I was firing at him. He then held the gun on me and walked around the car to come up to me. He told me to turn around and put my hands behind my back. I dumped what was in my hands onto my car and did what he said. He shoved the gun into my back and started going into my pockets. When he got to the pocket with the pistol, he freaked out and started pointing it at me and asking what was I going to do with it. I told him that it was his and I wasn’t going to do anything. I asked him to leave. He started to run off and then told us to go into the house. My girlfriend ran to the door and I waited for her. Then I paused to see where he was going and how he was going to run. He then started shooting in the air so I ducked into the house and grabbed my AR-15 to see if I could talk to him about what happened. By the time I made it in the house and back out, he was long gone. He took my pistol, wallet and about 6 credit cards. The police did a wonderful job and came out very fast. I was very happy about that.
I guess my point is that everyone needs to pay attention to what’s going on around them. Some crooks are getting BOLD and the situation was exactly what I was told it would be like in my CC class. If I would have paid better attention to the car parked in the street doing nothing, I could confronted him while he was still 20 feet away, but I slipped up and it cost me. If you get shocked and caught off guard, keep calm and don’t panic. It’s better to live to fight another day.
I just wanted to share so others that have been carrying for years like I had been, would remember to stay on guard. It is a hard thing to do when a guy has a gun jammed in your back and you are wondering if it is going to hurt when he shoots you and if you will still be able to fight with him to give your girlfriend the time she needs to make it to safety.
Thank you for your time and sorry it was so long.

Hope I'm never in a situation like that. Good for him keeping his cool though, it's probably hard to do.

Definitely a good lesson. Just read about the Officer in Hancock County that was saved by his K9 just before 3 thugs could drag him into the woods to slit his throat. They are for sure getting bold/brave these days.

What if he would have been shot and killed. 2nd guessing the decision to not draw

Smart move. Unless, he would have saw a clear opportunity to get a shot off. Do you know where this was?

What if he would have drawn and they killed his girlfriend? What if he would have drawn and he killed his girlfriend? You can go through hypotheticals all day. Lucky they made it out without being harmed.

That guy probably shouldn't carry.

Why? Because somebody got the jump on him and had a gun on his girlfriend? It could happen to anybody.

pulling out your LC9 at 20 ft away doesn't guarantee a successful ending.
He didn't escalate the situation, everyone lived. Best case scenario IMO>

Needs to learn some krav maga. They teach what to do in exactly that type of situation.

It was in the driveway of my house at 10:15pm. I live just off of the corner of O' Neal and Old Hammond Hwy. I tracked him going down Sherwood Forest towards S. Choctaw.

Near O'Neal and Old Hammond.
That's why I moved from that area.

I don't think you should krav maga when there are more than one person there. Possibly with guns. He lived and that's what matters.

smart move by the guy. If he had drawn his weapon his girlfriend could have lost her life. Things happen fast, he made a wise decision.

Good lesson. Can't wait to see all the mall ninja hardasses that will come in and say things like "sounds like he shouldn't be carrying" and "always know your surroundings".

You also learn how to deal with more than knew person.
All it would've taken was a sneeze and the guy could've been dead. I guess I'm not the type to sit around and wait for someone to shoot me, but to each his own
