So I think this is interesting. N.O. is really a small town, and a person can occasionally hear things from very credible sources at social functions after a few cocktails.

This is what was told to me by someone with absolutely no reason to lie or spew bullshite.

Monty was offered the opportunity to stay with the organization (as an assistant I assume).

There is a strong sentiment to move Dell to another position eventually (obviously presumes a new GM . . . not necessarily Dumars).

JVG is highly favored by a couple of significant FO personnel .

Whatever. Just thought it was sort of interesting.

JVG probably wants a deal like his brother, a GM to do the day to day work, but will follow his strategy. Demps could of course quit, but the team has him under contract for 2 years if they want. JVG is significantly ahead of the other candidates in terms of resume and potential if Hoiberg isn't in the mix, so I wouldn't at all be surprised at what you heard other than they offered Monty a demotion. Just fire the man, don't tell him you want to stay friends.

I really want Monty to be an assistant for us, more of a player personal assistant coach

No playcalling or strategy

MM set these odds for our next HC based on what he's been hearing.

VOR is always legit. But this is BS

Talk about having your balls chopped off. No coach in history would have the lack of dignity it would take to accept that. And a FO would never ask a coach to do that.

So when I brought the idea up of demoting Monty to an assistant coach I can't even remember how much criticism or downvotes I got, and now it's brought up again but it's ok? This place can be a bad joke, I literally LOL'd.

IMO Monty doesnt have the skill set to be a head coach. He be a good/great assistant and I would like him to stay here as an assistant

But he would never do that, he has to go out and find another HC job and resurrect his career as a head coach

I don't think Hoiberg is a legit option, but I agree with the rest. I'll be disappointed in Gentry unless he brings Adams. Otherwise give me Thibs or JVG, I'd be happy with either of those options.

So what were we without him? A 55 win team? 60 wins?

"Resurrect" his career? Most people nationally think he's coming off the best job he's done.

Monty ran his course here. But the idea that he's awful is flat wrong.

With all of our injuries, in the west, you can't win 45 games with a shitty coach. Unless you're gonna tell me a "good" coach would've won 55 or 60 games with the same roster. We all know thats not the case.

You posted to complain about lack of criticism of a specific idea. The complaint was lodged after 5 replies had been made to the OP. 2 of the 5 replies criticized the idea. 2 out of 5 = 40%, a pretty substantial rate.

I'm JS. I was the first person to bring this idea up and I got smashed for it, and somebody agreed with it and the OP said it was Prob a topic of discussion according to sources. I'm sure plenty of people think it wouldn't be a bad idea; they just haven't said anything. Idk how it could be a bad idea.

I'm sure most people would be fine with Monty as an assistant, but it's not a realistic option. Head coach demotion in pro sports just doesn't happen, moving laterally is the usual path. It will be pretty interesting to see how they navigate things with Demps if JVG is the coach and wants to be his boss. Demps has never really been in control, more unsupervised at times so in some ways it won't be new, but he and JVG would need to be on the same page for it to work more than this year.
