Exede satellite internet

Anybody have experience with them? It seems like they're about my only choice where I just moved to (although Suddenlink is supposedly coming).
They only offer one speed, 12 Mbps, but they have data caps. You can either get 10, 12, 18, or 30 gigs a month. If you go over they drop your speed to 1-5 Mbps. For the 12 gigs of data is 60 a month plus tax. I feel like that is pretty high for Internet.
What do y'all think?

all satellite internet services suck and should be looked at as last resort options.

That's what I was thinking going into this. I was told Suddenlink was going to be available then when I called to set it up they said it wasn't available at my address.

That sounds great my parents only get 1-2 mb per second on dish net out in the sticks

I think they have caps on the internet usage - make sure to ask about that. Also, I've heard they are terrible in rural areas.

I know it has data caps and that's the main thing that I don't like about it. It may be my only option, though.

What do you currently use your internet for? Could you supplement with a wi-fi hotspot?
I've been working in some remote areas lately, and people are so tech challenged, lot's use exede because it is their only option, and they are MISERABLE. no streaming, no gaming, nothing.
If you do any of these things regularly - or hell, even use your internet for more than online shopping, posting, email, then you will probably be moving within the year.

Yeah I stream Netflix and Hulu a lot, play FPS online, my girlfriend plays stuff online, etc. I really don't want to get satellite but if I have no other choice I will. Can you do any of the stuff I just mentioned with a wifi hotspot from ATT?

You'll get abused in fps games on satellite.

I know for a fact that teathering off an iPad you can game online until your data runs out. No lag that I have seen.

you can get a sprint 30gb plan with an air card for $110. id go that route before satellite.

I have unlimited data on my phone, grandfathered in. I might have to see how much it would be to tether off of it.

Do you normally get LTE where you live?
Posted on 5/26/15 at 9:06 pm to papasmurf1269
Sometimes I get LTE and sometimes I get 4G
Posted on 5/26/15 at 9:09 pm to rballa19
I didn't have a lag issue and mine was in and out of LTE.

the aircards have a external antenna port. you could purchase a cheap directional antenna and point it toward the closest tower.

They wont let you. Even if you could, they would throttle you so hard it wouldnt matter

I use this and it's the worst thing ever. Stay far away if you can. Hold off for Suddenlink. AT&T Uverse is available now in our area, and I'll be switching over soon.

Prepare to reach your cap in a week or maybe less.

depending on the cap, he'll reach it in 3-4 days. NOT joking. Have known several people who have satellite and they reach their limit by day 3 of the month
