#1 Overall Seed hasn't won the CWS since 1999

The first year of national seeds, Miami was the overall #1 national seed in 1999 and won the national title. Hasn't happened since then.
Just found this interesting since we will likely be either 1 or 2 depending on UCLA and maybe Miami.

Umm... No.

So what
You don't think that's a pretty interesting stat? That's not covering a year or two. That's covering roughly 15 seasons.

UCLA does have a shot at the #1 overall

UCLA down 1-0 in the 3rd..rubber game vs Oregon

See you guys next year. Hopefully the team realizes this and doesn't make the same mistake of winning the regular season again.

But UCLA has a great shot this year.

Always liked being the team to buck a trend.

I felt yesterday that if they drop that series while we went 2-1 well end up #1.

Not sure a 2-1 series doesn't get us the #1.
But the Ducks are up 2-1 in the 5th so a 1-2 finish for UCLA vs the unranked Quacks may seal the deal.

This is one of the great fallacies that causes statistical errors or errors in pseudo-statistical thinking. Just because it's happened before has no predictive value over whether it happens this time, unless there is a logical, empiracal reason to make it so.
The most likely reason the Number One Seed has seldom won it is because there are eight fairly equal teams that arrive in Omaha, each with about a 12.5% chance of winning it all. The fact that any particular seed has won it only once is not surprising.

So it's not surprising that the favorite to win the CWS has not won it in 15 years?

While statically fascinating, it doesn't reallly mean much.

I totally agree. Never said this means we shouldnt want the 1 seed or that it plays a role in our chances. Just thought it was interesting.
