Thoughts on VFINX? - I Never See it Recommended

I started a Vanguard ETF last October and selected VFINX. However, every time Vanguard is brought up, I never see VFINX recommended.
Is there a reason for this? Should I switch to something else?

It's just Vanguard's S&P 500 Index fund. There isn't much to bring up.
A lot of people mention VTSMX. The only difference is VTSMX is a "total stock market" index fund whereas VFINX just tracks the S&P 500. Nothing wrong with it. Same basic strategy, and very similar expected results.
ETA:
no, you opened an account. But I know what you mean.
No, assuming you are planning on holding for a while, just leave it in VFINX, keep contributing and let it ride. If your balance gets over $10k, talk to Vanguard about switching to VFIAX (basically the same exact fund but admiral shares so lower expense). I can't remember if they automatically upgrade you to the admiral shares or if you have to exchange it. Either way, its free and easy and cheaper in the long run (although VFINX is already cheap)

I bet that this might be in the top 5 holdings of the board. Certainly top 10.
eta: VTSMX might be higher.

They don't. You have to exchange them yourself.

Vanguard will exchange automatically if you're a Voyager or Flagship client.

I recommend it all the time on here. P.S. VOO is the equivalent ETF.

I agree with Kennypowers. There is a large overlap in these two funds. Check out the top 10 holdings in both and you will see that they are almost identical.

I've seen VFINX mentioned several times this year alone
Also, they will update to admiral shares, but not as soon as you can do it yourself. Was told this directly when I called them about 2 months ago with this exact question
