Lots and lots of revisionist history here.

quote:

Doc spent 4 years in Orlando before going to boston.
Coach of the year his second season, never had a losing record.

Coach of the year means jack shite. Byron Scott won it too. Plus playing .500 ball is now an accomplishment? And Doc had a career losing record (273-312) until they got Garnett and Allen. He was not well regarded at all until Ubuntu. Even that year, most thought he was still shaky.

quote:

Stotts won't be a head coach for long, was never good, still isn't good.

You're praising Rivers for staying around .500 in Orlando, but dumping on Stotts for back to back 50 win seasons in the West? This board never disappoints.

quote:

Rick Carlisle has always been a great head coach. He was extremely successful in Detroit and indiana.

Never said he didn't win. Just that he got fired twice. You are not that successful if two franchises kick you to the curb within 4 years.

The point, which flew over your head, was that coaches can develop over time too. Like most things, you usually have to fail to improve. And context matters as much as anything (see C.O.Y. award history).

That doesn't mean Gentry is the hire or will be great. His track record is not stellar. But that record also doesn't preclude him from being very good

I think we need to be careful with the Rivers discussion. Rivers won in Boston with an absolutely stacked roster. He was given a similar opportunity in LA and seems to be floundering a bit. Did he get better? Yes. Did he become a great coach? Not in my opinion.

If Doc is who we use to show Gentry has a chance to bring a championship here, consider me skeptical.

The Monty firing is seeming more and more like a bad move with every new rumor. Like someone else said, I feel like we might have been better off if they kept Monty and helped him bring in elite assistants than the road they seem to be heading down now.

The point is you named 3 coaches who combined didn't have as many years of bad coaching years as Gentry has.

It's not like Gentry coached for 3 or 4 years and over achieved or showed promise.

We've got almost 800 games to pull from. he was good once. How many more chances does he deserve?
