I love that you actually have to dodge and time attacks instead of the normal button mashing you get from pretty much 100% of all RPGs.
I cast the shield spell and I barely have to dodge anything. Maybe dodge once or twice then cast it again. Prior to using the shield spell I was dying every 2 seconds because lol@trying to dodge 5 wolves
Then again I haven't had any good fights, either.. it's all been wolves or some lake monsters and a gryphon.

I have this on PS4.. just finished up the Bloody Baron quest. I honestly have trouble getting through this game.. Does it pick up more later? I find the combat uninspired and repetitive and the storyline hasn't really sucked me in yet.
Maybe I'm just playing it wrong?
I have the same feels so far.
I just finished the bloody baron/family matters saga and did the witch quest in the bog and stuff. The story hasn't roped me in yet - the most interesting thing story wise I've done is had secs with Keira, and TBH I don't think that'll have any impact on the story going forward, so it was just hollow (them bewbz tho). The main characters I've come across seem a bit meh and I'm not sure if I care about any of them yet.
The open world isn't as interesting as I though it would be (each area above-ground feels exactly the same so far), but maybe I just haven't explored the other non-Velen regions yet.
Maybe I need to start focusing on leveling some sick crossbow skills, it may make combat more fun

It does. Almost everything you do in this game has a consequence later on.

You'll be surprised with how vast that Novigrad is, if you haven't been there, or at least I was. Skellige is massive and also totally different from Velen and any other place you go. If you thought Velen had a lot of "?'s? you're in for a surprise.
If you didn't think the Bloody Baron story line was fricked up than I don't know what to tell you.

what's the best way to make some money in this?
You're poor for like the first half or quarter of the game depending on what you focus on (Main story/sidequests). I had a game breaking glitch that took two weeks to fix and grinded side quests and contracts and made a frick ton. Eventually you'll start picking up weapons and armor that you don't want, because hopefully you'll have found the Witcher gear, and you can sell it for a pretty penny.

The Baron story is what sucked me into the game. So much emotion in that mission. Some people have different taste in games though and there's nothing wrong with that. It continues to pick up though so maybe it will get you

You need to head to Novigrad because you need to find the merchant with the best saddle bags.
There is no good way to make money but money is rarely needed.
You need to sell lots of equipment so having the best saddlebags means having to make fewer trips.

Agreed. You'll eventually be rich as frick with nothing to spend it on. You should never buy weapons or armor, and depending on what difficulty your playing on, food could also not be vital since meditating replenishes health and swallow.

I guess I didn't know why I should care about the Baron's story if it was only told as a means to learn about Ciri's whereabouts. I suppose since he's going to Crookbag Bog or whatever there could still be some impact related to Geralt.
Yeah Velen is sort of crappy village with peasants, bandit camp, monster nest, crappy village, place of power, river/stream, so maybe I just need to get to another region

In enjoying this quest with the witch. Hopefully Velen just kinda stinks

Velen isn't great. The missions definitely pick up, especially in Novigrad and in Skellige.
The Baron's quest is what got me into the game because it really showed how my choices matter for the first time (this was my Witcher game). My ending was definitely the darkest ending and that resonated for the rest of the game when I was making choices.

I havent played this after I beat it a month ago, but fired it up last night on PS4 and noticed the update added stash locations (really, how was this not in the intial release) and seems to have made the framerate better.
Tempting me to start a new playthrough but I sunk 22 DAYS playtime into my first run.. by the end of it my wife was sick of it.

Me too. Seems like if you're not into it by then, you probably won't enjoy the rest of it, at least not enough to sink several dozen more hours into it.
I started a new playthrough, but since I heard that New Game + is coming, I'm going to wait for that now.

The "Hey, you wanna look at my stuff?" mission is bugged in v1.07 on the PS4. Does not work for me and seems to be a widely known bug.
There was also a mission in Skellige in which I had to drop off a note to the armorer in the main fortress on the mountain. He would not acknowledge me when I pressed 'X' to address him. Another bugged quest.
Other than those two, the game was great. I'm playing through again much more slowly just exploring and goofing off. Finding those saddlebags are a top priority.
Also, I found an underwater location in Skellige, but when I approached it, the game would force push me up so I couldn't dive down deep enough to reach a chest there. Any advice?
If I had one complaint, it's the number of '?' in the ocean around Skellige with the same enemies in it over and over and over. That got tiresome as those flying bitches kept wrecking my boat. It was also glitchy as Hell. Sometimes I'd go flying off my boat, glitch a hundred feet in the air and fall to my death.

I only found the Witcher gear in Skellige and beat the game fine. Most of them are just the smuggler's cache. It's honestly ridiculous how many they put out there.

Just make sure to do the horse races ASAP and hit every merchant you can find for the saddlebags, you can get the best ones pretty quick.
But with the stash spots now they aren't near as big of a deal as they were on my first playthrough...every time I found a heavy armor set I'd have to ditch it because I was holding 5 complete sets of witcher armor I didnt want to toss, now all but the wolf armor is in the stash and my weight is 119/160, they also made the alchemy and crafting stuff weightless.
When is new game + coming? i may want to wait for that.

I think I have about 30?s left in Skellige.
Out of the 30,000 I did find, I think there was only 1 quest that started up and only 1 real serious monster. The same island I found the quest, I found a lvl 49 griffin.
Other than that, all those ?s are mainly smugglers caches with a couple of guarded chests. Nothing compelling enough to actually finish off the remaining 30.

I finally beat this game, but man the last few hours was a real drag.
This game is long, which is awesome, but about midway through skellige I got real tired of going to a spot, using witcher senses to follow a trail, kill monster, return to guy.
It's probably one of the best games I ever played, I guess I just should have started the main quest before getting burned out on the secondaries.
I usually replay all my games to get the platinum trophy, but I'm not sure I have the endurance to replay this one.

My issue is that the game gets too easy once you reach a high level even on Death March. I'm looking forward to the expansions.

Turns out I hadn't finished the bloody baron quest yet, and I'm still working on it.. It's pretty intense. I don't know whether to feel bad for the guy or to want to punch him square in the balls
It is taking me a LONG time to progress through the storyline, I am doing a lot of side quests. Combat still feels a little lacking to me, but fighting the big bear and the golem was fun so maybe it will pick up.
