And it is a really shitty point comparing the government to a group of private organizations that are supposed to be treated fairly.
How do you think the bounty investigation started? Someone made a statement to the NFL and they investigated it.

It isn't some complex thought, just a dumb one. I fully understand what you're saying, it is just illogical.

Yes, in this football world we live in, a quarter of a season and draft picks is a huge, HUGE deal.
Like HUGE, not sure why you're discounting that.

That's the key word here. The Wells Report merely concluded it was possible that Brady knew. There was nothing definitive. Yet you support a punishment of this magnitude simply because Goodell had a feeling Brady knew something?

Why should the penalty for "lack of cooperation" exceed the penalty for what they are being investigated?

The punishment has been handed-down...did the Wells Report demonstrate they are repeat offenders?

Make it jaywalking and 2 months in jail, that make you feel better? If so, go with that.

I'm curious as to how this work. What defines the period of "repeat offender"?
Is it as long as Kraft is owner? Forever? Until Brady and or Belicheck retire? How deep does that extend

As is the punishment. A $25,000 fine. How is this any different from the Panthers heating balls last year or the Chargers putting stick 'em on their towels back in 2012 so their receivers could better catch balls? In both instances the players involved got a slap on the wrist. And that was with undeniable proof.
Also...the Colts informed the NFL *before* the game that the Patriots were deflating balls. If the NFL was aware of a problem before the game, why didn't they warn the Patriots this was going on? Why did they let them play with tampered balls for an entire half?

And they held onto that information for an entire season before making it an ordeal.

It shouldn't have to come down to that for a fair punishment every single time
It is an abuse of power for something the NFL doesn't care that much about.
If they did, they would have the proper controls in place to prevent it from happening. The absence of control shows that the NFL doesn't consider the action "detrimental to the game". If it is, then the failure at the top of the NFL needs to be addressed.
