Yup, just got lucky. Got the assignment like a month and half after the notification. Found out actually right after I took leave to visit here, thinking I was going to be fricking all the british skanks for at least 2 years. Then boom gf says in pregnant

* Which is the best branch? Talking benefits, living conditions, etc.
I'm partial to the Army... Anything but the Marines in terms of contract obligations... I'm pretty sure the Marines are a "best needs for the Marines" are how your job/position is selected

* A 51 on the ASVAB is pretty shitty, no? I feel like my recruiter is bullshitting me lol.
Yikes. I scored a 99 and was railroaded to Human Intel... I'd take more practice tests and try to get that GT score up

* How do you feel your time served affected you? Positively, negatively, etc.
Best decision of my life... I was 21 and had to figure out what to do with my life and it was the best way to use the next 5 years of my life

* How is basic training?
It's only 9 weeks now, I went for 13 and it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't easy. Best advice is since you have to do the push-ups anyway, don't sham and cheat yourself, it'll suck at first pushing yourself, but you'll be better in the long run and you have NOTHING else to do. Just do the exercises until you can't anymore when you're getting smoked and soon, you'll be cut from marble.

What is your GT score? That's what really counts, at least in the Army. If you look at your line scores, GT should be the last one. I only scored an 83 on the ASVAB but my GT was 128.

No idea man. The paper the scores were on was lost no more than a week after I had gotten it. And this was around 8 months ago, thing is long gone by now lol. I'll hit up the recruiter, he should be able to get it pretty easily.

Solid advice. Your current score is going to limit your options.

Choose the branch by what you see yourself doing AFTER your military career is over.

Solid advice.

quote:

if you like working on engines, join army/marines as a mechanic.

Or Air Force as either a vehicle maintainer (fix the same type vehicles) or as an aircraft engine mechanic. I'm sure Navy has the same as well.

quote:

If you see yourself working in a plant, join the Navy as a Machinist Mate, or GSM.

Once again, Air Force has metals tech and other jobs similar to this.

Bottom line, all branches have similar jobs for the most part (not talking combat jobs). Don't pigeon hole yourself into once branch.

May or may not be true outside of the military.

But the Air Force takes a ton of shite from the other branches.

Uh what?

I've never heard someone say a fricking word when we were airlifting their half of a body out of somewhere.

Other than joint jobs where no one would say shite to anyone either, where would this shite talk fest happen? Internet blogs? Facebook memes?

Cool...

So then it should be easy to answer my question?

I've worked joint assignments for over half my career. I've never had anyone say a word to me?

So where? Faceless people whom aren't even in the military on a facebook page? Does that matter much?

You are way too defensive. I know people in the Army talk mad shite on the AF. It's good-natured ribbing borne mostly from jealousy. Get over it.

An example: In Korea my 1SG loved to run us past the AF "dorms" and yell "wake up" during PT. One day we ran by and they were all in lawn chairs eating donuts. 1SG never tried that shite again.
