Seriously?

Those don't even look that good on their own without the allowances

Most of those girls were bar girls from Russia and the Philippines (at least in '99-'00). Looked good to them.

* I don't know that they actually carried pay scales, but that was the running joke.

Same with Navy...I was guaranteed my school pipeline, but that was it..

That's why you volunteer for subs. You'll get a guaranteed school and there are only so many bases you could possibly be stationed.

The way mine worked was where you scored in the school for your rate. I was #2 in my class so I got 2nd choice of billets.

Much respect to you guys. I took a sub ride in Waikiki that lasted 45 minutes and I almost had a panic attack.

Whenever I tell someone I was on subs their first reaction is "I could never do that. I'd freak out."

It's actually probably the most laid back and relaxed atmosphere of any branch (except those pussy AF girls). You can call your division officer a ****, there's a porn fairy, you can pull your balls out whenever you want... life is good.

Well, it was when I was in... now they're putting women on them so I'm sure it's a big ol' bag of fricking suck now.

Damn that's fancy. They just wrote all the assignments on a white board and we went up in order and wrote our name next to the one we wanted.

That shite was like draft day though. There were people at the bottom offering money for a better pick and shite.

Well, having spent 45 minutes on one, I know I'd freak out. I was perfectly happy sleeping in the dirt.

Honestly, with several exceptions, most of the technical jobs are the same in every branch.

Agreed..Short of my very specific rate training, 75% of the classes were basic electronics, programming, etc.

I imagine there isn't much difference. in that regard.

most definitely a positive experience. Don't get me wrong, you will not love everything about service life, but it's very rewarding if you allow yourself to open to it.

Can only speak for the Navy but winter in Great Lakes, Ill was nothing like I expected. Full Metal Jacket was the hot movie about the time I went in. Needles to say it was both a relief and a let down, if that makes any sense.

Anyone who put's down service life isn't worth taking advice from. The life isn't for everyone, and most of the people I knew that had hard times/crappy experiences brought with them crappy attitudes.

Remember, It's never as good as some claim and it's never as bad as some say.

I don't think a lot of people realize how many schools are joint service. Almost every Army TRADOC post has soldiers, Marines, AF, and Navy training for the same jobs. Where do they think we learned to hate each other?
