I Want More Hard Sci-Fi - Why are there so few good movies in this genre?

I finally saw Interstellar the other night. LOVED IT.
I've been in the mood to watch more movies in that genre, but it seems like I've seen them all. And there aren't very many out there.
Hopefully the success of Interstellar and the cult following of Moon will get a few more made in the future.

Ex Machina hard enough for you?

ex machina is out right now and it is much better than interstellar.
if that's "hard" enough for you
I do agree though, a very mistreated genre right now.

Hadn't heard of it.
Honestly, with a toddler at home, it's been hard to focus on what's at the movies. I have to hit them up when they come to blu-ray.

It all begins with Blade Runner brah.

Interstellar, Prestige, Moon, Sunshine, Ex Machina (haven't seen this yet), Primer, Upstream Color, Her, Looper, Under the Skin, Children of Men, Dredd (ok maybe not 'hard' sci fi), Pandorum (not as bad as people think), TImecrimes, Outlander, Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, New Apes Movies, Snowpiercer, Source Code, Europa Report...
Science Fiction is doing fine. I always want more sci fi, but there's lots of choices out there.

Europa Report is one of the better scifi movies in recent memory IMO.

I'm also a big fan of Lunopolis. That was a lot of fun.

What's the difference between normal and hard sci-fi?

Well, it doesn't matter because Star Wars isn't really sci-fi, Soft or hard.
I'm assuming he means hard science fiction in what is classically referred to as a work that uses hard scientific fact or theory as a basis for it's story. Something that sets to actually explore science itself, rather than just the ramifications around science.
Interstellar is "hard science fiction," because it explicitly explores the theory of space time and all that good stuff.
However, take Interstellar, and make the movie about the world, not about the black hole and space travel, just about the situation on Earth. Then it becomes a soft science fiction story. It would be more concerned with the people, the situation, and more of the "fiction as an endpoint of a science genesis."

I was wondering that too. Sci-fi is Sci-fi

There have been a few good scifi movies in the past year. Interstellar and Ex Machina were both very good, Chappie was pretty good.

What movie does Star Wars have more in common with?
A) Lord of the Rings
B) Interstellar

A lot of people are resistant to the idea that Star Wars isn't really science fiction. I guess the idea comes across as pretentious to them. It's just a more nuanced definition.

The Black Mirror series is harder than any movie out right now.
